Al-Emran 7-8

7- HE (ALLAH) IS THE ONE WHO SENT THE BOOK DOWN TO YOU, THEREIN ARE PRECISE AYAHS; THEY ARE THE FOUNDATION OF THE BOOK, AND ALLEGORICAL ONES.  THOSE WHO HAVE SICKNESS IN THEIR HEARTS FOLLOW THE ALLEGORICAL OF IT, SEEKING DISSENTION AND SEEKING IT’S PERVERTED INTER INTERPRETATION.  ONLY ALLAH KNOWS IT’S INTERPRETATION AND THOSE FIRMLY GROUNDED IN KNOWLEDGE WOULD SAY: “OUR LORD WE BELIEVE IN IT (THE QURAN) FOR IT ALL IS FROM OUR LORD” AND ONLY THOSE OF SOUND MINDS TAKE HEED.

8- OUR LORD DO NOT LET OUR HEARTS GO ASTRAY AFTER YOU HAVE GUIDED US, AND GRANT US MERCY FROM YOURSELF, FOR YOU ARE THE GREATEST GIVER.

There are two types of Ayahs in the Quran:

1-    The precise Ayahs.  They are the fundamentals of the Quran, its main foundation.  The commands are precise and clear.  They contain the right and wrong, the Halal and Haram and the punishment for wrong doings.

2-    Allegorical Ayahs: Which are open to interpretation, yet they are usually clear to those of faith and knowledge of Islam.

Parables are given in the Quran; also some Ayahs or parts of Ayahs are abrogated.  There are stories of prophets and other people in the Quran. They are all the allegorical stories.

The Christians of Nagran in Yemen argued with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him about the nature of Jesus peace upon him being the son of God.  They quoted an Ayah of the Quran “BUT CHRIST, JESUS THE SON OF MARY, IS A MESSENGER FROM ALLAH AND HIS WORD HE SENT TO MARY AND A SPIRIT FROM HIM” (S: 5 A: 171)

However, it should be mentioned that:

1-    Allah the Highest did not call Jesus my son.

2-    Allah the Highest called Jesus a word from Allah for he was created by the word “be” and he was.

3-    Allah the Highest called Jesus “SPIRIT FROM HIM” for he was created inside Mary’s womb by a blow from Gabriel into her womb.

Other Ayahs were ignored, such as “DISBELIEVED ARE THOSE WHO SAY THAT ALLAH IS JESUS THE SON OF MARY” (S: 5 A: 17)

“JESUS THE SON OF MARY DOES NOT DISDAIN FROM BEING A SLAVE TO ALLAH”.  (S: 4 A: 172)

“DISBELIEVED ARE THOSE WHO SAY THAT ALLAH IS ONE OF THREE” (S: 5 A: 73)

Those who wish to pervert the Quran follow some parts and do not follow other parts.  They also try to put their own interpretation on the Allegorical Ayahs.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him warned us of them, saying: “If you see those who follow the allegorical of the Quran, they are those Allah named, be weary of them”.  (B: Tafseer Al Emran & D: Sonah; 2)

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him command that we should never make the Quran subject for our argument.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him recited this Ayah then said: “If you see those who argue about the Quran, they are those Allah named, so be weary of them”.  (A: 6; 46 & Ma; Moqademah; 7)

There is a great deal for the faithful well meaning Muslim to learn from the Quran without resorting to argument and dispute.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “The Quran is Allah’s banquet, take from His banquet as much as you can” (Al-Hakeem)

Some think that the Quran contradicts itself sometimes.  This is due to our inability to understand the Quran properly, for Allah the Highest does not contradict himself.  Allah the Highest said about the Quran: “FALSEHOOD DOES NOT APPROACH IT FROM THE FRONT OF BACK, IT WAS SENT DOWN FROM HE WHO IS MOST WISE AND IS WORTHY OF PRAISE”  (S:41 A:42)

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him commanded us not to argue one part of the Quran against another.  If such dispute arises, we should refer it to those who know.  He said: “Those before you perished because the argued part of Allah’s book against another.  Allah’s book was sent to you for its parts to confirm each other, so do not argue one part against another. Discuss what you understand of it, what you do not, leave to he who knows” (A: 2; 185)

Those firmly grounded in knowledge and of strong faith believe in all of the Quran and understand it.  They always seek guidance from Allah the Highest and as well as Wisdom and understanding.  They also seek guidance from the Hadith and Sunah.
