This is the second time I've done this post - freaking soulcast...

Anyway, as I recall last night I ate two mersindol and drank two glasses of wine, slept deadly for over 10 hours.... thankfully my migraine is gone and I am just left with that yuky feeling.

As I usually do, I am picking myself up, dusting myself off and getting on with it.... so here is a little light entertainment to prove you can't keep Lucy down.

Melbourne Cup this last week was a blast, a little gem in a pool of shit week for me.

On the way to work I was listening to the radio, a trainer was being interviewd about his horse, "we need a wet track to prove him" the horses name was 'shocking' - now the way my mind works is that I have had a fucking shocking year so that was my horse, wet track or no.

I changed at work, putting my war paint on, high heels (I know not good but a girl needs some pleasure) and my fascinator.  As we run a bus company we had a free bus ride to town, the Rydges Sabaya to be exact, where the leukemia foundation were doing the luncheon.

Beuatifully set tables, loads of fabulous food which can be seen in one of the photos - my food baby I mean te he he

So we get settled as they start to auction off the horses running in the cup, I told my bosses if they wanted to keep my accounts skills they better buy "shocking" !!! so we began bidding and it was a war with a table behind us... until boss lady screams out $200 dollars!!! LOL

The room fell silent no one wanted to over bid us so we got shocking as our horse for the day! YAYAYAYAY

The race began, all were excited calling "come on horsies" te he he then a horse bolted to the finish line, a good head length ahead of the field and no  one realised which damn horse it was until the screen changed and the words "shocking wins the Melbourne Cup" BWAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAA we won!

We all enjoyed a few more drinks, while we counted our winnings! we all (table of 10) put in 20 bucks and got back 70 bucks! weeeeee

You can just see my fascinator.. its round pill box like, with pretty teul (spl) and little feathers poking out of it, worked perfectly with my dress.

So henceforth all the girls in the company are now known as "Charlies angels" because we all wanted shocking as our horse and won!

Here's Charlies angels... and a few ring ins.

Of course thats me on the left, my bosses mother, bosses other business worker - really ncie lady (blond), my boss (centre with the hat), another worker like the blond lady - different business (yeh boss lady runs two businesses at the same time.  Charlie's wife, then one of my colleages - she's a cool chick, then boss ladys husband, centre holding the trophy is Charlie, and next tohim is boss ladys cousin who does our IT.  Keep it all in the family te he he

I really loved the way the hall was decorated out, those big massive bunches of roses were dotted around the room and yes they were real! they were donated by one of the businesses in town.

All in all it was a really fabulous day, I ended up buying a thank you card for my boss as she paid for everything that day, she's one spunky lovely lady.

So a "fascinator" is a hat.....and a lucky one at that!  Congrats on your "shocking" win!
  • Fallyn said on Nov 06, 2009....
womby, a fascinator is either a small hat... or a hair decoration.  .... sometimes a fascinator is just the foofy decorations ON the hat.  depends on who you're talking to.
  • Twylarants said on Nov 06, 2009....
See there? You just can't keep a good woman down.  Love the hat, btw.

Well glad you're on the mend Lucy.  Sounds like an awesome time, and I loved the name for the winning horse.  Sounds like our horse picking methods are similar, lol.  I generally find a name I identify with in some way and go with it, and you know, I've gotten pretty lucky that way.  Checking the stats never has done much for me.  Anywho, so now I get what a fascinator was ... I thought you were talking about some kind of pin or something like that.  Pretty neat, and yup, I'd say you did a fantastic job of getting all dolled up and looking beautiful.  Glad you had such a wonderful time.  :-)

it's a mixture of sci-fi, punk, goth, mad science, and magic.... all set in an edwardian victorian apocalyptic future.

    it's called steampunk.

steamcon is the convention ... .it was like a victorian era Salon....everyone came in costume.... most of them authentic victoriana with odd touches of craziness.

    many girls in corsetry.

it was damn hella fun.  seriously.

    I love the Victorian age....:-)
  • Fallyn said on Nov 07, 2009....
wow ginger. i didn't know you loved that stuff too.
  • gingersoul said on Nov 07, 2009....
Fallyn........its a very creative, imagination feeding, historical and modern-futuristic at the same time fun movement and make people amazed about the daily things because they are shown re-constructed in such different ways......the music is a mix of different influences and the costumes to kill for.......whats not to like?...;-p

They had a convention here in Dallas last July...

My daughter love this stuff too.....:-)
  • Fallyn said on Nov 07, 2009....
the steampunk convention i went to wasn't anything like the first one you posted..... nearly everyone was in costume... and it was very very richly done.... it was in a fancy hotel.   the one you posted seems much more geared towards the science and making things end of it.
