I hate going to funerals unless it is a family member or close friend,. I am a Baptist but the term “buzzard Baptist” is new to me.  It is someone who identifies as a member of the Baptist faith, but only attends funerals not regular religious services

. Some members of many other religious denominations could also be considered “buzzards,” but Baptists are particularly famous for it.

A typical buzzard Baptist chooses only to attend funerals to mark the passing of community members.

Funerals are an important part of their life. Funerals  tend to draw out more members of the community, allowing people to connect with each other, discuss community issues, and catch up on missed news and events. For a buzzard Baptist, being present at a funeral may also be a mark of respect to the deceased.

The term is also sometimes used to describe people who only show up at church events which are likely to include food, a reference to the food-seeking habits of the buzzard. This type of buzzard Baptist may be reluctant to provide or cook food for church events, but takes delight in eating it, and may also take these events as a chance to meet up with other people in the community.

I think that the buzzard Baptist is just a very lonely person,

lol, I know folk like this.  My own take on it is that the use church as a social outlet rather than a spiritual one.  Nothing wrong with it.

Yeah I really don't think it's just the Baptists that can be coined with this, lol.  There are buzzards of all shapes, sizes, colors and ethnicities all over the place.   Heck, I've even been a buzzard before.

I am of the Lutheran faith but Jewish blood runs through my veins :o) , so you think you have problems? I try to avoid funerals, they depress me and I would simply prefer to remember the deceased alive and well, yet in my world that's just not exceptable. I try to go to church every Sunday but when I finally breath in my last breath and simply go away, no one needs to show their respect by viewing my lifeless body. I would prefer to be remembered by the smile on my face and in the knowing that I truly loved life and tried to make the best of it. A funeral can benefit many, usually financially. I can see no reason to place me into an expensive custom made box to rot away below the earth's surface as people morn above me. As morbid as it may sound, when my time finally comes I can only hope and pray that someone  remembers to put me out on trash day :o) everyone is welcome to attend the event . . . even the "Buzzard Baptist's".
