Tonight I came home and took a nap.  Life is good that way. :)  When I got up I was hungry, so I made a "run for the border" (Taco Bell).  It occurred to me as I stepped out of the house that I am very appreciative of the mild weather I enjoy where I live.

I walked to Taco Bell in November in sweats and flip flops at night!

There are parts of this country and world, where the winters are much colder.  No way that I could even step outside in that garb, much less take a two block walk.  I love this about where I live.  I'll suffer the noise, congestion and radical politics.

So .......... tell me one thing you appreciate about where you live.

First, I would like to say with all due affection that you and your flip flops suck, Uni!  ;) I am in my fleece pajamas and fuzzy socks, and I am still cold!  But - until the wind took most of them down, I had the most beautifully colored autumn leaves.  Also, the harvest veggies rock!  I made pumpkin soup for dinner tonight and it was really, really yummy.

BTW I love Taco Bell, but it doesn't love me.  When I eat it, the slogan becomes "make a run for the bathroom!"

ummmmm   it's near the water? it's beautiful.

i'm trying really hard but it's hard to find things i appreciate about here.
i want to leave so badly.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 04, 2009....
wishy - would you believe that sometimes I long for one of those really cold nights? lol  I like winter veggie soup too.

Fallyn - Hello friend!  Yes, sometimes it's hard to appreciate what we have.  But your part of the country is ruggedly beautiful and the air is pristine.
  • Fallyn said on Nov 04, 2009....
oh yes it is those things.... it is however extremely isolated..... wet.... small.... boring...
    lol       but it is beautiful.

    OMG!
I'm freezing, and you go to TACO BELL!
    That is funny!

I suppose I appreciate the peace & quiet, privacy (maybe not from family or neighbors, most of which who are family, but at least from total strangers) and the clean smelling air.  On a good night, we can sit outside, talk, laugh, enjoy, be at peace and just breath comfortably without a care in the world beyond what wild critter might be passing through... and to us it is, but if it were someone who isn't used to that, boy I bet it would be a shock.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 04, 2009....
Fallyn - I know it doesn't seem likely, but one day you'll look back and remember just the beauty.

mixed - aren't you in the north bay? is it really cold there?  It was 63 degrees here at 7:30 pm
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 04, 2009....
hege - the quiet (less the nature sounds) is a real blessing.  Of course the privacy and clean are not to be scoffed at either :)

As you know I live in SOuth Africa - whats to love about this place? besides corruption and crime......not really sure

It's a bit chilly here, but we've had the prettiest fall we've seen in a long time.  Everything was orange, yellow and red fading perfectly into green.  The trees of many kinds shedding their leaves standing naked for the winter.  It was wonderful to see through a window.  :)

I love my state but loathe this city. Um...it has its own airport so I don't have to go out of my way on the rare occasions I travel that way?

cj - think harder.  Do you have great sunsets?  A special food that only grows there? something?

Grape - Fall colors!  that's something that I'm glad you appreciate.  I was hoping to see some of that last month on my little jaunt.  Too many evergreens here to get a real feel for fall colors here.

TIO - there is something to that.  I know that I love the convenience of having to drive 10 minutes vs the 2 hours I used to drive to get to the airport when I lived in the Napa Valley.
  • Twylarants said on Nov 05, 2009....
Can't think of a thing.  Wait...Golden Corral!  There are none in North Jersey but that's the only thing I'd miss if I moved home.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
Twirlie - Golden Corral must be pretty then.  Can't say I've seen a lot of corral in general. (I suck at snorkeling)
  • Twylarants said on Nov 05, 2009....
LOL, not coral...corral, Golden Corral.  It's a buffet restaurant with the best food, home cooking type food.  Here's the menu. You would love it!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
Twirlie - OMG!  much better than coral!  I wanna move there just to be close to the place! [drools]

Beautiful mountains, friendly people who look out for one another, I know my neighbors - they are my friends, quiet nights - (other than the occasional train going by) you can hear the crickets chirping. Country living at it's best.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
bamagirl - hi, nice to see you!  yes, the chirping of crickets and other country pleasures are not to be overlooked.

Beautiful sky and gorgeous clouds..... show-off sunsets in front of me when i drive home from work...... great weather (beside the way too long summers)..... this week end we will be back to 80 degree....:-)

A super quiet apartment complex where i can hear the crickets singing at night when i walk my dog, even if its in the middle of the city...... huge parking lots everywhere.....great shops and restaurants and museums.... global mix of people, a big, international airport (very important detail for me) and overall very friendly people.

Oh, also the occasional sight of some real cowboy....;-p

Can you believe i see cows pasturing in a field outside the windows of my office? Right here in the middle of the business district?....lol...

  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
ginger - that all sounds good.  The sight of grazing cows is very relaxing.  It is surprising to find it where you do.
  • Zayda said on Nov 05, 2009....
Well, the specific neighborhood I live in has one of the top 10 public school systems in the country and the top school system, in academics, in the state.

I love the fall weather that we have and the beautiful leaf colors. Unfortunately, they are almost gone now.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
Z - hi there! :)  Having a great school is such a good advantage for kids!  Yes, sadly much of the fall weather is behind us now.
  • beyondtheveil said on Nov 05, 2009....
My number one thing is like you, the weather. Last winter I needed no more than a light jacket a few days. You live in a prettier place with the ocean, but I have access to some of the best tacos in this part of the galaxy.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
BTV - I envy you those tacos!  Yummmmm!  Not needing to bundle up is a great perk.
  • cuppajava said on Nov 05, 2009....
Hhhhhm - well its practically summer all year around and in summer the sun is still up at 730pm.We also have some of the most colourful landscapes in the world, and some of the most exciting wildlife and birds seen nowhere else in the world.

    Goodenuf?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
cj - so you're saying I can come sleep on your couch and take pics when I come visit? LOL  sorry, you make it sound irresistable and you all know how I am with a camera
  • Me-Myself&I said on Nov 05, 2009....

i appreciate all most everything around me. i love my roads i travel, back roads, the trees, a beautiful sight everyday. it's farm country here, about every few miles there are these quiet, cute, run-downed villages where all the farmers live. lol..... they all have their own charm. ....little tribes.

the best of all, it's quiet, you can disappear. cool .... of course there is The River!

  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 05, 2009....
MM&I - one of the things I found charming when I visited my Dad in Nebraska were those very small towns dotting the countryside.  Some with only about 100 populations.  The little diners, gas stations, etc.
  • queenparanoia said on Nov 06, 2009....
