I am here at work right now, finishing up a few morning tasks. I have to get going in a few minutes to get vital signs, intake and output, morning meds, etc. I just took a lady off the bedpan. All in a night's work. There is never a dull moment around here. It is very busy almost every night. At the place I worked before, there were many nights we sat and crocheted or knitted all sorts of projects, shopped online, etc. I sometimes felt guilty for collecting a paycheck for doing those things. There has never been a night like that here. It's a pretty happenin' place. There is plenty of pneumonia, COPD, and chest pain to go around. Many times, we will see the same people come back a few weeks later for more of the same.
It is satisfying to go home in the morning knowing I have made someone feel better. I try to spend quality time with each person, asking them about their experiences, family, work, children, not just their illnesses. Some people are very fascinating and interesting to talk with.
All in a night's work.
