OK, so I was having a spirited discussion with an old buddy at work the other day, and the question arose: who are your top 5 villains of all time? We had some pretty good ones, namely Dracula, the Joker, and the Ma Fratelli lady from The Goonies. Some others that come to mind are Lord Voldemort, Professor Moriarty, Lex Luthor, Nosferatu, Sauron, and Shredder.

So who are your favorites? From comics, books, movies, TV, or even real life - who is big and bad, and why are they that way? Who's the biggest threat to humanity or heroic men in tights?

IF we get enough names, maybe they could fight it out in a tournament. My money's on Darth Vader.

oo, i always like these types of questions...hm. you know, i gotta go w/ vader, too. all the other ones are a threat to their planets: vader's a threat to whole solar systems. remember when at his orders, the death star blows up an entire planet (alderaan)?

Was it him, or that old funky Grand Moff Tarkin guy? I love the Grand Moff title and I think he was the one who made the call, but Vader gets the nod over him any day, so he may as well have ordered all sorts of planets destroyed. Besides, Tarkin was on the death star when it exploded; Vader was the ultimate bad guy and then went good at the last minute because his kid was about a minute away from becoming toast. I'd go with Vader.

You know who else is pretty scary and threatening? Bob Barker.

i'm horrified that i can no longer recall whose idea that was!

lid: LOL!!! You sure it's Bob Barker and not Gary Coleman?

I have to say the biggest villian is the Crimson King, from the dark tower series... not only was he out to dominate this universe, but all universes, so in that regard, he tops Vader.

However, Vader has the best costume for a supervillian. Well, for a male supervillian anyway. :p

Smith from the Matrix. He was one of my all time favorites, smart, mechanical and yet passionate. I still get chills when he gives the speech about purpose in the 2nd Movie.

I loved Smith's speech about human's being like viruses. He was awesome.

Yup, it was Grand Moff Tarkin who gave the orders. Remember Leiah saying something like, "Governer Tarkin, I thought it might be you holding Vader's leash."

I do like Magnito in the X-Men movies, but maybe that's because I think Ian McKellen is cool.

Any villiam that can be calm and cool about death and murder is freaky. Magnito hardly lifts an eyebrow. Vader does get a vote for best costume from me too.

I think the guy... ahh, who was it? Liz Taylor's ex-hubby. In 1984. He played his cruel and calm character very well.

It's not just about taking over the galaxy or universe. It's about being cruel, cold-blooded, and utterly wicked while doing so.

Oh! Oh! Professor Snape in the latest Harry Potter book. What he did at the end was just so evil. His true colours have been revealed and they are so pure black.

one word - Oprah - i've never seen anyone real or fictional have so much power by so little effort... im telling you inside that huge head lurks an ever growing plot for world domination

Step One: brainwash the masses through mindless talkshow
Step Two: set off a revolution by speaking out against the main powers of the world
Step Three: salvage th rubble and gain controle
Step Four: buy milk and dinner
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 30, 2006....
i was expecting step 3: profit!

for me... although this is personal... the villain is philippine president, gloria macapagal-arroyo... she makes life terrible for all filipinos... she sends out filipinos to work abroad so that they will have dollars to corrupt... in so doing she breaks the basic unit of society which is the family... and now she wants to revise the constitution to extend her term from president to prime minister... she suppresses the press, threatens to send to jail congressmen who are against her... rigs the election results... manipulates the law to her convenience specially when she is being impeached... etc, etc, etc... the list goes on... and she is unstoppable... and to think she is just a small woman but a terrible leader...

i just lift up to the heavens my frustrations for this woman... may god have mercy on her for making the lives of filipinos miserable... so avoid her if you can... she is an incurable disease and the most hated villain here in southeast asia.

For me, it was the flying fat man, Duke Harkonnen in Dune...."just a little spittle..." as he spits in Lady Jessica's eye!  Kissing that pale, trembling young man just before he pulled out his heart plug!  eeeeyyyyooooo & YUCK!

I had subscribed to you when I first came onto soulcast.  I just saw that you are back, in SeanRenaud's blog.  I have just resubscribed to you.  Welcome back!
