On Saturday morning I hopped out of bed, gave hubby a birthday kiss and song *-} then headed into town for a couple of supplies ((wink wink))
I headed straight into St Vinnies second hand. Low and behold a families had handed in an elders bits and pieces, discarded from a life and handed to be found by others who will value these items as the original owner did.
I found an absolute stunning 1940's pipe tray. Silver plated, its style is literally just after art deco so the lines are sleek, the curves smooth, the lid comes right off, there is a beautiful crystal insert in the lining of the tray. Its basically used with the crystal pulled out, the lid on the tray to cover the pipe ash and smell while the tray is used to sit the pipe on. GORGEOUS!
I didn't give it to him straight away, I waited.... te he hehe we caught up with friends for the local raffle which was weird and strange, not the usual saturday ritual we have as most of the people were a little out of sorts so we kind of didn't hang around too much. His mother was up from south and met us to come over for the afternoon - or so we thought.
Turns out she can't relax around us, in our house, she was like a cat on a hot tin roof which made me feel odd and hubby feel as though he was being shunned a little, moved or pushed to the outter.
She knew we were having a BBQ for his birthday, she didn't want to come ???? WTFIT???? His brother didn't bother coming either...
Anyway, we said as she was going to call us on Sunday so we could catch up before she left to go home her reply was even more disconcerting "Well I'll have to wait and see what J is doing" Errrr WHY? you have two sons, you can see both of them... we let that slide, hubby was a little bemused by it but heck, why let it ruin your day right?
Our friends turned up late, as usual ((they own a chopper tourist business) they had quite a bit of work on which is cool, it gave hubby and I some time to settle on the afternoon and lift his spirits a bit from his mothers visit.
He loved the gift, polished the silver up straight away :-)
Our friends turned up and we had a blast of a night, great BBQ of which I did all myself, my girlfriends mother made a really yummy Burinani rice dish ((god I love Indian food)) we ate and talked and joked and just had a really beautiful time.
I did something I am so very happy to have done, I set a piece of paper up in Ronald my type writer and set him on the kitchen table with a message to write the birthday boy something special.
I will keep this piece of paper forever, the words on it are pure gold, words of wisdom and love and friendship, making for a beautiful night.
It was so late, too late, and I know we didn't drink that much, actually it was only 1 bottle of wine between hubby and I - we were so caught up in conversation I think.
Today is my end of month week - not looking forward to it at all... the chick that was doing the accounts for the new business we baught has been a bitch basically and not done them for two months without even telling me, so I have to up date the system before I get the invocies done COW COW COW... one agents payments takes about 6 hours to do, we have over 45....
Tuesday however is a work luncheon, my boss is taking us out to a Melbourne Cup lunch.... te he he I get four hours of work done in the morning then go to lunch from 11:30 to 2:30, then hopefully get a couple fo more hours in at work..... it will be a nice distraction to be honest.
Hope everyone is enjoying the remnants of their weekend.
