Yesterday was a busy day for me. We began early by making a two hour drive to go to my SIL's little girl's 6th birthday party. This little girl is so darn cute. I've been picking and choosing the family events on that side of the family that I attend and I did want to go to this.
I gave her a red glittery hat and mini purse I made. She immediately put it on and ran over to give me a hug. That made me feel good.
There was a lot of fakeness in the air regarding the in-laws, but that is typical. I do enjoy the sincerity of the smaller children though. I hope they are not corrupted by the family facade as they grow up. I will definitely make sure that they always feel special as far as I'm concerned with birthday gifts, etc.
My husband insisted on wearing a costume. No one else did and it was a little embarrassing for me, but I endured. (The party was at a pizza place.) I vetoed the wig he wanted to wear there. It made him look like a transvestite and his family was not the right crowd for that. We quibbled about that during the whole trip.
Later in the day, we drove to my parents from the birthday party. It was the same amount of distance as home by taking a different route. My best friend was in the area, so we all met up and went to the local steakhouse for supper. Since it was Halloween, all the waitresses were in costumes. As we were seated, my Dad told the hostess to be careful where she seated us because he was a vampire. :-)
We had a nice meal and some good visiting. It was good to see my friend. She had been nearby covering a football game for her newspaper.
My friend left for home after our meal and we went back to my parents for a while. I enjoyed watching the little trick or treaters that came to the door.
My sister texted me later and said she had over 200 little ghouls and goblins where she lives. She must have spent a fortune in candy. She has a rep for being one of the houses with the "good stuff" on Halloween.
A friend of the family stopped by with his wife and baby. He's my dad's best friend's nephew. He's barely 20. My dad calls him his student. He thinks he needs a little guidance since he doesn't have a father in his life. He's probably right. He does ask my dad for advice quite often.
Anyway, their little baby is the cutest little thing. I had made her a hat. She looked so sweet in it. I get a lot of joy from seeing little kids in things I've made. I guess it's my way of enjoying children without actually having any.
This morning I was greeted by two little mewing kitties in the window well. I held them for a bit. We keep the window wells covered, but the covering had shifted just enough that they fell in. I put them under the porch. Their mom will surely find them there or I can feed them there. I imagine she had been bringing them to the house to show me. :-) My husband makes fun of my relationship with my cats, but I can't help it if they love me.
I plan to either make potpourri or knit today. Maybe both!
I hope you had a nice Halloween and remembered to set your clock back if you are in the US.
