Have you or will you go solo dining?

Imagine yourself sitting at a corner of a restaurant enjoying your juicy succulent fillet steak...alone!

I've tried that once and it doesn't hurt at all. There's nothing to be embarassed about. Anyway, it's my business to go solo dining. I like the food there and I choose not to take anyone with me to eat at that restaurant.

In any posh restaurant, the waiter would ask "Table for two, three, ....?"
Then, imagine me telling the waiter "No, just one".
And the waiter would stare at me for a second before ushering me to the.....corner of the restaurant and the darkest spot of all.

Now, why would waiters discriminate solo diners? We are already alone and yet they make us look so gloomy and dark by placing us in the most isolated corner. Nevertheless, I'm able to enjoy my meal in solitude.

I like solo dining because I can enjoy my food to the fullest without any interruptions from any conversations. I will usually lose my appetite if I engaged in a conversation while having my meal.

Have you experienced any discrimination while you dine solo? Or in the first place, would you dare to go solo dining?

I have eaten alone a lot of times...
I dont mind it...Infact I do enjoy it...
Once somehow this topic came up and my sisters went beserk like it was some kind of weird thing to do...
    And I was left clueless...
Then I realised its kind of weird thing to do...
    Not that I mind...

But now atleast when I eat out I tell the waiter "I am not expecting anyone", otherwise it end up getting lousy service, cause they think I am waiting for someone...

I have never tried it. I might some day, but I'm too much of a chicken right now.

i travel for business and often eat alone then.

it's one thing i really don't care for - i'd much prefer company.

I haven't experienced anything like discrimination because i'm alone. In fact, I was in Golden Co last year at a Chart House and they gave me a really fantasic seat with a view...
maybe it has to do with the restaurant?

Maybe...it has to do with the restaurant.
But I don't really care about it.

Having a companion for lunch or dinner is great but don't know why I like eating out alone or otherwise I'd pack the food and eat it alone at home.

I like to dine alone. Sometimes I treat myself after a bad day at work, by getting my favorite dish at the resturant across the street. I think it's nice to sit and simply enjoy your food and take in your surroundings. I think it's hard for some people to understand why you would chose to dine alone, because they gain something else from the experience.

So you're not alone in dining alone. I think people always seem to assign bad connotations to "alone". It really shouldn't, sometimes there is more to gain by doing things solo.

I often eat alone, both at home and in restaurants. I love it when I walk into a restaurant alone, and the hostess asks me "How many?" I've always wanted to ask... "How many do you see?"

sure, all the time, in London that is. I use this site www.timeforone.com for their dining solo section and soon they'll cover NY too. Solo dining is a good way to close your day, in peace with some good food and allows you a little reflection. Or on the other hand you don't know who you'll end up talking to!
