Today, taking cost out of IT while delivering solid performance is
critical on business. As growth organizations cope with rapid data
growth, the need to drive increased agility while reducing complexity
and cost has become one of IT’s great challenges. Linux provides a cost effective platform that delivers optimal performance
and can be easily managed and scaled. Just as important, the scaling of
the IT infrastructure management can be done without increased
complexity. No wonders the business world has embraced it
enthusiastically, and used Linux for their data centers.
These days Linux has played a key role in data centers where resource
limitations such as space and energy are becoming an increasing
concern, Linux provides high performance, greater efficiency and solid
a return on investment for IT solutions. Linux is on the prowl.
Corporate America loves it. Most of Fortune 500 corporations have
already turned to Linux to power their “Big Iron Computing works”. It’s
an awesome platform; it’s free, versatile and can be customized to
perform almost any large scale computing task and best of all its
blessedly crash resistant. An army of programmers backed by some of the
world’s most powerful corporations like IBM is constantly working to
improve it and introduce new feature. Linux is not new to us, it has
been around for about 20 years, we have already felt it presence and it
has made big strides recently. It has transformed itself from realm of
research labs and geekdom’s operating system to a world class OS that
will power most of a modern business’ needs. It’s already created a
strong mainstream buzz in the tech world and recently gained a strong
foothold in the server market. For me Linux strength are on costs,
Linux is open source that’s mean nobody own the code, software isn’t
bought, users pay for maintenance and support not licenses. This kind
of software business leads to cheaper hardware. A well tuned Linux
client consumes less memory are disk space than a regular client, Linux
is an efficiency driver. Storage plays an increasingly important role
in managing IT costs, reducing risk and improving performance. Storage
is a key element of dynamic infrastructures. Using Linux is great its
increase the processing power and storage of the company’s IT machines.
I strongly believe that in the future more and more businesses
are considering ditching Windows for Linux, a move that could hurt the
Redmond’s behemoth (Microsoft). If there’s one thing out there that
could poise a major threat to Windows that’s could be Linux. Linux has
already move out of academia and its already firmly entrenched in the
enterprise, taking on software stalwart Microsoft. Linux got lot of
potentials and promises.
Technology and the web.
