Let me share with you a couple of thoughts/phrases, I have experienced over the last couple of days.
‘Well it’s just all going to go in the trash anyway.’ - My husband
Sure, but when you cram pack the SMALL trash can with soda bottles there is no room for other trash. This was a problem before, and since the trash is YOUR responsibility I either have to take on your responsibility and take care of the trash myself (which I get damned tired of doing), or it sits until you get around to it after a few days, at which point it’s now a game of ‘Balance the trash on the mountain’ as it grows. We’ve had a system for a long time now; one can for bottles, one can for aluminum cans, and the 2 trash cans. Yes, there are technically 4 trash cans in the den. One is maybe a 10 gallon trash can, the other is maybe a 3 gallon office waste basket, and the other two, for cans and bottles, are soda cube boxes converted to trash cans via a handy plastic shopping bag being placed in each.
If you were putting your bottles in the 10 gallon trash can, that would be fine, it has more space, but it’s across the room from you now. But instead, because it’s closer, and you don’t even have to sit up to reach it, you drop the damn bulky bottles into the small trash can, which is the ONLY trash can in reaching distance of MY chair. The damn bottle receptacle isn’t even five feet away from you! Pardon me for wishing to have a little comfort and not having to get up to throw things away because you’re to lazy to lean forward. Geez. Idiot. If you will religiously take care of the trash so that I never have to do YOUR task, or so that we don’t have to play ‘balance the trash on the mountain’, then FINE, by all means, put the damn bottles in the smallest trash can instead of the bigger one … or WHERE THEY BELONG!
‘Well that was fucked up.’ - Me
I finished The Stand by Stephen King. I’ve got to hand it to the man, he did quite well. It was also fun reading along, seeing all the mistakes and errors from printing. They weren’t all over, just in what I believe were probably the sections added in. See, I was reading the full version that was re-printed years after the original came out. They just must have picked the pages up off the cutting room floor and thrown them in, then left it at that. My favorite though, was the last couple of pages. They were reversed, lol. It threw me off completely. I read the first page I came to anyway, wondering where the two missing pages were, flipped the page, and realized THAT was the page I should have just read, with the previous one following, but instead I did it backwards. So, the content of the book itself was fucked up …. But the switch around on pages was too.
Then we can’t forget how right now we’re having this Swine Flu breakout, and this book, for those who know nothing about it, gets started off with a government screw up, during which there was a leak on a sort of ‘Super Flu’, that was 99.9% fatal. Once it started spreading, well, if you weren’t one of the ‘lucky’ immune, kiss your ass goodbye. You get flu and cold symptoms and even a little bit of delirium. YAY! He also mentioned the Swine Flu a few times throughout the book, but it almost was referenced as if it was a case of the sniffles compared to this Super Flu, or Captain Trips. It was creepy reading it, with the Swine Flu being such an issue currently. That Stephen King has got some talent, because I had to keep reminding myself, ‘It’s just a book … FICTION!’ when I’d sneeze, or feel queasy, when my husband wouldn’t be feeling well, or even if Little Kitty sneezed. I was cracking myself up all throughout because I’d get SO into it, hear a sneeze and be like ‘Aw hell!’, then remember that it was just a book.
Of course the book goes on about other things, the leftover ‘immune’ population rekindling, and of course the fight between good and evil. I won’t give away the ending, but the whole book was pretty intense, and not without it’s share of gore also. That was aside from all the intensity from reading about the virus, given the current state of things in reality, it was creepy, and it just made me wonder a lot. How realistic could it be, you know? But I’m not here to get all political and government smashing, I was just saying, it’s really interesting timing for when I read this and current events in the world, or the US anyway.
