  Anyhow....yesterday a man came into the gift shop looking for a bag in which to carry his extra items to avoid the $50 overweight fee the airlines now charge.  I asked how large the item was, and this is what he pulled out of his bag.
  It's the actual 1st base from the game in which Dereck Jeter broke Lou Gehrig's record!
  OH MY GOD!!!  That's all I kept saying.....OH MY GOD!!
  
  His name is Gary Longardo, and he's the artist for the MLB.  He's also painted movie stars....go take a look at his site, it's great.
  I'm sure he didn't expect a reaction like he got from me, especially with the way I look...just a nice gray-haired older lady.  Little did he know what a rabid Yankee fan I am!
  "Can I take a picture of it?  Can I take 2 pictures of it?  I'll take one with my camera and one with my cell so I can send it to my kids OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD can I touch it? OH MY GOD!!!!!!! It has the original dirt on it? This is dirt from Jeter's actual shoes???"
  
  Poor guy...lol. He was laughing so hard he almost dropped it.
  He told me there will be posters printed from the original painting (which he also had with him and which I was too stupid to take a pic of) and the posters will be given away at a game in the future.
  "When? When? I go to 2 games a year, oh please let it be one of the games I go to, please please please!!"
  Before I had a stroke or passed out he promised to have a poster delivered to me at work.

  OMG...I'm still so excited especially since they won last night.  Do you see the dirt on the base?  They told Gary not to clean the dirt off before he painted it so it's sealed on there somehow.
  Doesn't it look like a cake?  I can't wait to see it in the memorial hall next time I'm in Yankee Stadium!
