Today I've decided that I'm going to expand my Etsy shop with some potpourri.  It's fairly easy to make and it will be a lower priced item to bring people into my shop.  I went to a big craft show last weekend and saw what a hot seller it is.

I've chosen to make two different batches.  I've ordered one kit in Jasmine and then I'm being creative and giving lilac a whirl on my own without a recipe.  I've dabbled in fragrances and oils for years and have even made my own candles in the past.  So this is something that is really going to be fun for me.

I'm still going to be working on my looms.  I love that too.  I will always be a yarn-a-holic.

I sort of thought ahead when I named my Etsy shop so that I could include more things than just what I've knitted.

I'm happiest when I'm creating things and I am confident that word of mouth will eventually take off and steadily bring me more business.

Once I get the supplies in, it will take between two to six weeks for the potpourri to be ready for sale.  It has to cure for the scent to seep into all the bits and pieces.

My house is going to smell good when I make this stuff.  :-)

On the knitting front, I just made and delivered another baby snuggie set.  Everyone is having little boys.  I have yet to make one for a little girl as a special order.

On the loom now is a special order for a little girl's hat though.  She's a toddler and this will be my first hat with little ear flaps and strings for tying it on her.

Then I plan to make a very soft hat as a gift for a lady I know that is battling breast cancer.  I hope it will make her feel pretty during her battle.

I just thought I would tell you what I've been up to.

How have you been?

Well that sounds neat.  Plus, too cool of a bonus to make the stuff for selling and benefit because your own home will smell awesome.  I've always sort of wanted to learn how to make potpourri, just for my own use.  I don't think I could handle mass amounts because for some reason, too much of the stuff gets my allergies going all crazy.  With how you're expanding, I don't doubt you're going to take off and be heading a large endeavor soon enough.  It's exciting to think about for you.  :-)

love the idea of making potpourri!  Let me know when the lilac is ready for sale.  I am a huge fan of lilacs.  The hat for the cancer victim is a very touching gesture, one I'm sure she'll appreciate.  Sounds like you're keeping busy.

Me? Just laying low during the cold weather and trying not to cruise the travel sites since I would just be too tempted to do a short trip.

    Hege,
I am allergic as well, but when the potpourri is curing it will be in something airtight then I will package it into pretty little airtight bags.  So, I'm thinking I can put up with a day or two of sneezing when I've got my hands in it.  :-)  Sometimes it's worth it when it's fun.  :-)

    Thanks for always being supportive.

    uni,
I will be sure to let you know when it's ready.  :-)

I'm hoping the lady with cancer will like the hat.  It just feels like a small good thing I can do.

I was thinking that maybe you have missed your calling.  You should pitch to the Travel Channel, "Uniquely Ironic Travel Destinations".  You'll be a star and travel the globe.  :-)

I'd love to have someone sponsor my travel!  I wouldn't even know how to go about it though.

    uni,
Maybe you could start making video clips of your trips.  Send them to the Travel Channel site.  I think they have links to do that there.  Maybe you'll develop a following.  Stranger things have happened.  :-)

CW that is an excellent idea, potpourri is a very good seller along with candles.

    MsStar,
Thank you. I thought about candles, but decided the potpourri would be easier for me to ship. I want to keep my shipping costs low because at the moment I'm doing free shipping.  :-)

I stopped in last Saturday. We chatted about me possibly putting some things in her shop. She gave me a contract to look over. Today's she's looked at my Etsy shop and this is what she said.......

I've made myself laugh out loud ...

Yesterday when I ordered ingredients to make my own potpourri, I ordered one each of a Jasmine kit and then french lilacs....
