More than half the energy used for heating or cooling a space is
lost because of wrong insulation. To keep your home or office warm
through the winter, provide walls and windows with the proper
insulating materials. Open all drapes and blinds on south-facing
windows during the winter’s daylight hours, but close them at night to
keep the heat in.
Simply turning your thermostat down by 1°C could cut your heating bills
by up to 10%. Heating water for bathing and washing is another area you
can save money by setting the cylinder thermostat at 60°C/140°F.
More efficient bulbs (energy saving bulbs) have been available for many
years. These have been traditionally compact fluorescents, and these
are still the most common form of energy saving bulb. Early types were
not so popular, because they were big, took a considerable time to
reach full brightness and were expensive.
Energy saving light bulbs work much more efficiently than standard
bulbs. A traditional bulb wastes energy by producing heat as well as
light. An energy saving bulb however works more like a fluorescent
tube. The electric current passes through the gas in the tube, lighting
it up without producing excess heat.
They also keep the environment free of dust and air borne pollutants.
In addition to this, they are designed to reduce noise, creating
peaceful surrounding. Strip doors are PVC strips mounted on door
openings. They are cost effective, easy to repair and offer excellent
visibility.
Radiators are notoriously inefficient with nearly 70% of their heat
simply heating the wall of your rooms and then being lost to the
outside of your home. By attaching hidden heat reflecting panels behind
your radiator not only will the heat loss be minimised but you will
reduce your heating bills by 20%.
Computer monitors are responsible for more than a third of your
computer's energy consumption. If you aren't using your monitor, put it
to sleep. Also, turn your computer off before you leave every day. It
costs you nothing, but it will save the company money.
Due to their longer lifespan, energy saving bulbs also have the
advantage of reducing waste, as it is estimated that 80 million
traditional fluorescent tubes alone are sent to landfill each year.
Unfortunately there are few light bulb recycling schemes in the UK so
waste reduction is critical.
Comparing with the ordinary lamps the fluorescent lamps have 10 times
more life. But the cost is higher than that of the ordinary lamps. But
if you use the energy saving lamps you can see your savings in
electricity bill. That is why most of the people are now using these
fluorescent lamps.
A fantastic energy saving device, energy saving light bulbs are now
cheaper than ever. In most homes, lighting accounts for around 10-15
per cent of an electricity bill. Traditional light bulbs waste a lot of
their energy by turning it into heat. Each energy saving bulb can save
you $15 a year. They also last, on average, up to 12 times longer than
ordinary light bulbs.
