It's been going on for ever. Bush fires. It seems the one on the Hill....Mt Archer to everyone else. Just refuses to go out. For the past week I walk out of my house to look at the smoke sitting on top of the hill. Yesterday and today it got far more exciting.
I sat out on my front deck and watched the thick clouds rising from the tree tops on the hill in the distance. As evening came around I watched as smoke started to come up from the trees, on the side that I could see. As darkness fell I could see the orange glow. Today I could not see the hill and ash was raining from the sky. Not a good day for laundry. Me and Hot Vet had planned to go horse riding today. It was going to be a big day as Princess was going to be introduced to Daddies new friend. Strong winds and warnings stopped that real quick.
Both Princess and I have developed coughs from hell and even now I can still smell the smoke. Though I can't see that familiar red glow in the distance. Probably due to the amount of smoke
Now before in my posts, I have mentioned dumdum. Now dumdum, who I can promise you lives up to his name. Well one of the other hats he wears, is that of volunteer rural firefighter. This has meant he has not been at work all week due to the situation. Which has meant me getting the new apprentice (an improvement)
Then I get to thinking. If I had decided to live on the other side of the river I could very well be relying on dumdum and his buddies. I start thinking about how in amongst all that smoke are volunteers. People who have given up their free time to fight fires or come to the assitance of those that need it in an emergency. Even now I just can't believe dumdum is up to it. I mean this is a bloke that struggles to use a screwdriver and complains at every task I give him. Yet somewhere out there he is running around in the middle of a bush fire.
He may not be bright.
My award for outstanding achievement.......yep to Dumdum.
I'm amazed the guy knows how to dress himself......but if the flames come close, I'll be happy to see the guy. (For Once)
