I am learning a lot about child and infant development living with my sister and my nephew. He is seven months and crawling well, while my baby boy is 9 months and still has absolutely no interest in crawling or being on the floor. Floor time for my son is excrutiating for him, and he always reverts to just rolling over from his tummy to his back because that is what he knows how to do, so he does it every time. I have been trying to give him more time on the floor without picking him up to let him work some things out by himself, but it is hard to ignore the cries of cuteness!
What everyone needs to remember is all babies grow, learn, and develop at different times, and in different ways. Although I may be a bit disappointed I am not seeing my sweetheart crawling around, I never crawled as an infant, and I shouldnt expect him to just because society says he should be. It is really shitty that before a child is even one there are a million expectations of them when they should be able to just enjoy life and be who they are going to be. We as a society need to be more aware of how we expect babies to grow, and more accepting of the fact that everyone is different, develops differently, and has different preferences.
My sweet one broke his first tooth the other day as well. His cousin has had 2 teeth since 4 months, and he just broke his first well into his 9th month. Just another example of how no two babies develop the same.
