On an even brighter note ... we're a little bit closer!  Woo hoo!  Happy dance!  All right, so we've been saving money via basically putting ourselves on lock down.  It's paying off.  For one thing, we've actually got a decent chunk (well, decent when compared to the usual zero or twenty bucks to spare, but by far not enough to just up and move out with unfortunately) in the checking account.  Another thing, that's going to take some getting used to, is that instead of waiting until pay day to pay bills, the money is actually right there.  I can pay bills when they come in, instead of waiting a couple of days until one of us deposits a paycheck.

See, I've got all our bills on a schedule that about half of them fall on or after one of our paychecks, and the other half comes after the next two weeks' paycheck.  It's been that way for a few years now.  It is so damn awesome, but so damn strange, being able to open a bill and go 'Oh, OK, let me just pay that right now!'  I love it though.  Already, most of our bills for the month are paid off, and we're by no means hurting for cash yet.  Speaking of paying those bills ... we paid off one of the credit cards tonight!

Yup, ZERO balance!  There's no fees, programs or anything with it, so as long as we don't spend anything ourselves it will remain at a zero balance until we either close it or use it.  We're intending to close it after my husband has another job, because while credit cards can be MAJOR trouble (don't get one if you don't have one, just play it safe for now), we already have it, we know the dangers, and if he's not working it could be the difference between eating and not eating.

Either way, screw all that stuff for the moment, I'm not taking away from the awesomeness of having one down!  Just a few more to go!  We're getting there.  We're finally getting somewhere!  I could almost cry I'm so happy about it.  I know you might be thinking 'big deal', but to me, for us, it is a HUGE deal.  Ah, yup, ending this one on a good note.  G'night!

I'm happy that you're happy. I don't like credit cards but I have no other choice but to use them :o(  .  Cash just doesn't seem to always cut it these days. I know all about the credit card game and the dangers lurking from misuse, I've see folks get into a lot of trouble with their plastic friends, even to the point of losing their homes :o(  .  Spending cautiously is the only safe way to go but I bet Obama wouldn't tell you so. Good luck to you and have a great day.

Rain - Thank you.  Yes, I am trying hard.  I don't want to see myself getting so close and then just decide to call it a day because I've had enough.  I intend to keep plodding along until we're at the end of the tunnel.  :-)

CM - I feel the same way.  To me, credit cards are the devil.  They can eat you alive if you allow it.  I try not to allow it, they're only for emergency purposes and to build credit.  We haven't used them in a looong time, but were paying off a couple of them because of two times having to move.  The first time being when my dad and I had our episode and I didn't have enough cash to move out with, and the second time being when we moved back out and away from my SIL and her toxic family.  At least I can say I've never just gone on a shopping spree with them, or thought 'Oh what the hell.' and bought something I didn't need, or couldn't wait for.  I end up with too much of a guilt trip on that when I buy with cash anyway!

Mixed - It's a lot better in the long run, but if you're in a pinch, and I mean a real pinch not just a 'Oh I want that.' pinch, then sometimes you might need it.  Yeah, what's with the Tag-O-Matic tag?  It is starting to look a little fishy.  Maybe select another tag that is going to be synonymous with your name?

Lucy -  Thank you, and that's the way I feel too.  It is finally getting closer in a way I can really see, and that makes a HUGE difference.

MMI - I am definitely happy to be so happy too.  I totally agree with you in that I'm more willing to wait and suffer it out until I do have the cash than to screw myself with credit.  The only things I'm going to be comfortable with using the credit on now will be to pay a bill if my husband and I can't while he's not working and while I'm either working less hours or none, depending on what my job does.

UF - It can be rough, but if you just buckle down and keep trying you'll get there.  That's how we're getting ours paid off, and ours aren't even that much compared to some others' debts, but to us, they are a gargantuan amount.  Best of luck to your parents.
