We were planning to change our office into more of a fun room, but my wife has just started doing supply teaching. A couple of months ago she was never going to teach again now she is enjoying the supply teaching and wants a full time permanent job. It looks like we will be needed the office for some time to come.
Apparently supply teaching is not as bad as the nasty stories make out, a few of the kids try it on but there is certainly nothing new there even for established teachers. The best part of it is that she just turns up and then leaves, no planning for lessons or having to attend parents evenings and meetings, plus if she doesn’t like the school she never has to go there again.
It’s a good job we never changed the office, in fact we have has to invest in some more equipment to go in our office to make it a bit easier. Since she has to be ready each morning for a phone call around 7 o’clock, we have brought new cordless phones. It is much easier to get things done if you can move around.
We have got the network set up for our computers, because as soon as we find out where she’s going, we need maps or transport links looking up and then printed. The last thing we are thinking about purchasing a fax machine. Every week she has to fax a signed time sheet to the agency and it would be handy if she could do this from home. I want to find out if the agency will accept a scanned copy instead, because it’s a lot of money to spend if it’s not needed.
I’m hoping now she has done a bit if supply that she can find a school she really likes and find a permanent position there.
