My office is going totally bonk......and all for a good cause.
October signs in fact the beginning of 3 months of madness that will
culminate with the big company Christmas lunch and the big Christmas show.
Last year for the show my team formed a choir and we showed off our musical skills with a song from the musical Rent....do you remember?
We liked to sing together and since we are now even a bigger team because of
new hires we are thinking to do it again. After all last Xmas we did
win!
But we haven't been with anything to do up to now, believe me ...
In February the theme for the month had been Superheroes Office.....we had full size card boards and took pictures with our faces sticking out of the superheroes figures. One of my bosses's husband is a very good cartoonist so he took the time to draw the characters. I chose a flying SuperWoman ...lol....pictures day had naturally culminated with a Bring Your Own so we had lunch swapping each other homemade meals and desserts. I prepared my now well famous Tiramisu......they devoured it in 5 minutes 5.....
In April we had Movies on Friday.
I helped in preparing the popcorn bags and the cards with the movies summaries and i went to Blockbuster to rent the films that we could see during our lunch breaks. A blast. We ended up throwing popcorn to each other all the time...
In May we held Pinata Day to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, naturally (and my b-day too). We went to cook our chicken on the two big grills we have in front of our office...we prepared our tables under the shadow of the large trees, we had our Pinata game and ate our candies...too bad the only drinks we could have were coke and water....
June has had as
theme the Summer. So for one day everybody went to work in flip flop,
Hawaiian shirts, luau and we had another outdoor grill with homemade bacon
wrapped shrimps and yummy tortilla. I even prepared my lasagna (after
repeated requests).......;-)
Then we passed to July, the
surfing month. I have been nominated the office Da Vinci and put in
front of a huge board with a pack of colored markers to draw a beach
scene with sailing boats and circling sharks and lots of surfs in the
wind (each surf had the name of each of us).
Each day somebody would add a little detail to the drawing.....it was
fun to discover little monkeys between the palm tree branches, or
turtles diving in the water or a shark biting the ass of a figurine
with the name of our boss on his head....lol.......
We also had a really fun Sand castle competition. Your truly and her team won a
prestigious second place. And we celebrated with yet another summery
lunch with refreshing iced tea and garden salad and Mexican tacos.
Then we had August and baseball
was the theme. He held a Decorate your baseball helmet competition. I
naturally gave the helmet to my daughter and she sprinkled it with pink
shimmery sparkling things, and wrote Go Team in shiny metallic blue.
I am proud to say she made me win the second place defending the honor
of my team. I won a Starbucks gift card that i gave to her. She earned
it....;-p
To celebrate the end of the Summer we held a Reggae Day with loads of food paid by all our bosses.
All the guys went to the office dressed up as Rasta men.Even though
several of them didn't even need any wig...they have already long
dreadlocks.....
We ate corn and tortillas and fried chicken and danced at the sound of Bob Marley in the break room..
On top of it we are always celebrating the B-days of the Month with a ice cream and cake event.
Then we had September ...football
season opening theme and we got football cards with the players. I gave
my cards and my stickers to a friend of mine....she has two boys....she
will use them....lol...
Now with October we entered in the core of this madness since this month signs the beginning of the United Way Operation.
Our company teams up each year with this large charity organization and
last year we raised a crazy amount of money for the homeless shelters
of the city.
We are doing it again this year.
I will again sign for having 5 dollars withdrew from my paycheck and passed it to UW.
To make the participation a serious business when one donates any
amount of money they can "buy" raffle tickets for winning several
prizes: last year the biggest has been two cruise tickets, several Wii
and lots of other stuff from restaurant coupons to spa gifts to golf
passes and so on.
I didn't win anything, naturally...;-(
But it was ok.....i do like this kind of getting dirty in motivating
people to collect needed money for a great cayuse, plus these events
give us some some fun time from the everyday grinding mill routine.
The first UW event will be next week Halloween Costume Competition.
Last year i saw really good costumes walking by my desk....a perfectly
resembling Tupac (i mean the guy looked his twin), a Jimi Hendrix, one Queen Latifah,
some cheerleaders, some Scream mask, witches, two great pirates and so
on.
I didn't dress up, but this year i might ...but since i have been invited to a
Halloween party so i might take the occasion to buy me some crazy
outfit........;-0...
Any idea, folks?
Then in November we will have again the Best Dance Competition.
Again, to participate you have to buy your tickets.
Last year we held the event outdoor...we had perfect weather...lots of loud music and crazy
dancers....let me tell you...i saw some co-workers under a new light
after that dance....lol...
I danced too...but only as back up to a girl of our department .....she
danced a la Ellen De Generes and was so good that she won a second
place and a $20 gift certificate...
And yes.....i know what you are thinking ....
So......if you are
wondering if we ever work....oh yes...we do......a lot....so we deserve
this kind of stuff......;-)
Give me some minutes and i will post some pictures too.
And you, guys?
Any crazy office gig out there?
