I wrote a blog about becoming a vegetarian. The reason that I want to become a vegetarian because of my health issues and to try something new for a while.

Today and yesterday, I was online looking up on vegetarianism, veganism and another term I learned is flexitarianism. Learning this new term flexitarian was great to to know.

The word flexitarian means that you are vegetarian that eats chicken, and fish, and dairy products occassionally. But you don't eat beef or pork. Reading about flexitarianism made me want to do this.

Lately, I have been eating more vegetables and fruit. I haven't eaten any beef or pork in about 2 weeks. And I have been eating meals without any meat involved. My goal is to eat no meat for one day a week until I am comfortable enough to try for more days. Once I get comfortable, I will try being a vegetarian.

I hope I can do this. I think I should write about it in here.

Also, is there any flexitarians or vegetarians who can give me advice?

I was a vegetarian for about 6 years and another 4 years after that I was flexitarian.  I ate fish and chicken but no dairy.

One thing to remember is to eat LOADS of greens for iron and loads of legumes like chick peas, beans and nuts.  You can make fabulous meals without meat and they are extremely healthy.

One thing I noticed though is that I ate more regularly, about five small meals a day.

Trying to reduce your meat intake is a great thing to do, your body can go into shock if you stop all of a sudden.

Another thing to remember is to not eat too much carbohydrates in the form of pasta or rice, they turn into sugars, try instead wild rice or brown rice, and use perhaps glutten free pasta, I found soups great for this, so many wonderful vege soups to make, alot of eastern countries have wonderful soups to try.

drinking soya or oat milk or rice milk is also good, along with cidar - cidar vinegar is brilliant, one dose a day (tablespoon)

lots of lemon water, barley water... its actually quite fun vegetarianism food wise if you're game of course to try new things.

no worries, its a mind field, if you haven't got anyone around you thats vege then it can be difficult to know where to start or go.

One thing I found great was spending a hundred bucks on 6 different cook books for vege's, it opened my eyes up to meals that were amazing in their flavour, texture and taste.

You may be on the right track.

Want to read my article about it?

This is really just what you're talking about.

Part 1 might be of interest too, but this one article addresses mammal meat (as opposed to bird and fish).

I totally agree with what Lucy's tellin' ya.  I've never tried to go without meat, but the main thing I seemed to really learn was that you need to make sure to find other foods, or even some vitamins to take, to supplement what you'll be missing from the meat.  Good luck on this journey!  Also, I didn't know that the vegans who ate fish and chicken were called flexitarians.  I had heard of it, but did not know they had their own name.  Pretty cool.

ohh man did I just find the tastiest snack ever! totally vegan, low fat - yummmeee

Chickpea chips, they're like dorito's, if you guys get doritos there, if not then think corn chip.  But they're baked and flavoured with vege flavouring totally awesome snack.

    ...Chickpea chips sound awesome!

I have tried various ways of eating, I feel the best when I eat a good variety, and enjoy what I eat.

equally I grow a lot of the food that I eat, so that in itself cuts down on costs and makes variety very easy.

I can teach you how to grow your own food, in the dark and when added to other foods truly adds quite a bit.
