The check is good.  It went through...shock...amazement,  worry...now what do I do?

I think I should withdrawl it immediatly and put it in my safe, maybe spend only a little of it that we desperatly need and keep the rest incase...something happens...ya know?

I mean, I think its God's check, lol...

Phil thinks its a scam and someone is gonna fuck us real good somehow, we dont know how and ive been through all the possibilities in my head and I dont see a way we could get fucked by this.  But I dont claim to know everything.

The only possible scam ive heard of it people mailing people unsolicited checks and its actually a high interest loan. After the people have cashed it and spent it the senders then ask for it back.  However this scam has always come with "information" along with the check.  Of all the scams ive read about and looked for, the check always has something with it, its never all by itself...

However, IF this is that unasked for loan scam...These senders have another thing coming if they want the money back with interest.  Ill call up my lawyer Frosty in a heart beat.  Asking them to prove I somehow asked for this loan.  Frosty will put'em away for a long time.

Even if it takes the whole check to pay for Frosty's services, it will be worth putting some scammers in jail.

I really dont think this is that scam though.  If it is im not worried about it in the least bit, I didnt sign or agree to anything so im not obligated to pay anything back.

Im gonna withdrawl the money and close that checking account then change all my passwords to everything I have access to online.  That oughtta be good.  I should be cleared of any possible scamming.

To be super safe though im gonna spend as little money as possible and just wait it out.  I figure 30 days is long enough time to let anything surface if it does surface at all.

Please, tell me what you think...

Well that is fantastic Star.  I think you're doing the right thing in withdrawing the money, closing the account and changing all your online info.  I'll pass on a bit of information I got from the bank once.  Usually, they say that 3 months is the safe zone, so if you come up with an extra amount in your account that you don't recall putting there, sometimes they've screwed up, and after three months if it's not gone, then it's yours and you can count it no strings attached.  Had that happen to me once, there was an extra $5.30 that wasn't accounted for, and after three months I actually counted it in and never had any ramifications.

Hege, maybe that is how I fucked up my checking account with this bank.  I noticed an extra $200.00 and instead of thinking it was the banks fault I assumed it was my error and counted it.  Then before I knew it that money was gone and id overdrafted, those dickheads...

i'm such a pessimist -  it's a scam.  checks don't just fall out of the sky.....

lol secret, apparently if you pray hard enough they do : )

I hope it all turns out well and no problemo with it.  I had read the other post and my first thought was someone you know was "secretly helping you out" somehow, but I really have no idea.  I think I would take it out, close the account etc...as you said, but I'd probably wait a little longer than 30 days, just in case.  It is the first time I've ever heard of anything like this, but I would be happy to be just as surprised!  Good luck!

Before I finished reading the post I thought, "Wait and see what Secret says before you say something to burst Starchy's balloon."  I think it's some kind of a scam, too, I just didn't want to be the only one to say it.  But, if you hold onto the money long enough, at some point it would have to be yours.
I just can't figure out how that could be true but I hope it is.

try not to spend to much- at least for another 30 days.

lol twyla i didn't want to be the only one saying something negative but it seems like i'm just ms negative these days!

i wish checks WOULD fall out of the damn sky!

Star~It's hard to reach my age without being a little wary about things like this. I'm going to hope it is possible and indeed a miracle, but until some significant time goes by I would not spend anymore than you can afford to repay. Just be cautious Star.

I agree with Secret and Twyla..

Good checks from the sky? Yeah, I believe it when the pigs will fly.....no prayer materializes checks, sorry.

At least don't keep it in ANY bank account and check your statements.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 07, 2009....

Did you try to contact whoever sent it to you, to see what the deal is? I believe in answered prayers, too, but I like to check things out because things are sometimes just a mistake. I got some money back from an insurance company, but I called them and asked what it was all about. It was some money we paid for my kid so they would not tell me jack. So I just took the money and ran. Like you, if they want it back, they can go blow. Anyway, I would at least call them and put your mind to rest and possibly save yourself a lot of grief.

I think you are wise to hold on to it for a while just in case.  I hope you get to keep it.  I wouldn't leave it in the bank either.

Hold on to it for a couple of weeks just in case the bank tells you you have to give it back.

Sorry everyone, im an idiot.  Apparently I misinterpreted the letter that clearly states "Ck# blah blah for the amount of $3300.00 WILL be available on 10/7"...To me that means, the check is good...Apparently its some kinda prank the bank played on me or something, cuz the money isnt in the account.  Please spare me the "I told ya so's"...I could prolly do without that.  thanks
  • ALIENated said on Oct 08, 2009....

You lost me. Today is 10/8.

  • starchini said on Oct 08, 2009....
Exactly, I thought the check was good yesterday...but when i went to get the money it was not there and i was told it would be but apparently i misinterpreted the letter saying it would be there yesterday.
  • ALIENated said on Oct 08, 2009....

So it was not a real check?

  • starchini said on Oct 08, 2009....
No real as can be, just not worth anything, it wasnt "good" but the bank letter was misinformative.  Thats why I thought it was real.
  • RollingC said on Oct 09, 2009....
I've had " real " checks sent to me but they turned out to be scams.  Hope that there is no consequences for depositing the check.  These scam artists are getting more and more innovative as time goes by.

nah, not worried about that Rolling, i dont use that checking account ever, ive got maybe 12 bucks in it.  thanks for your concern
  • NoStop said on Oct 12, 2009....
What is wrong with you? Call the bank and find out what's going on. You risk compromising your finances. Don't assume it's a printed cheque from God...that's absurd. What if it was a loan meant for a needy family? Gosh.
  • starchini said on Oct 12, 2009....
NoStop, you dont know what is going on.  Whats wrong with you?  Im not risking anything, and my bank already told me whats going on, im not assuming anything and the check was written to me and I am a needy family.  GOSH.

Did you read the blog entry below about Adam's transgression? Now read this: How does Jesus define righteousness? It it obedience to the 10 commandments? Is it some sort of formula that we have to follow?...
