I am in love with the way people speak here in the South. Oh sure, I've had a couple of negative experiences - one involving a man wearing a hat with the confederate flag and asking if my obviously ethnic last name was "Perder Reeken."
None of that seems to matter on a day like today - besides, there are just as many racist assholes in NY as there are here, just that I probably blend better up north.
I was coming home from the medical library earlier when I saw the cutest little old lady standing on the side of the road, near her car, waving a white hanky. Seriously, she was adorable - looked like she came from the Southern Grandma catalogue, wearing a floral dress and a little hat with a ribbon on it.
NY Wishy nearly drove past, thinking it was probably a ruse, i.e. - I'd pull over and some guys using Granny as a decoy would come and do God knows what. But ... I said a little prayer for protection, and pulled over anyway.
Turns out that little Adelaide was not an axe murderer, but was having car problems and has a cell phone, but left it at home, cause her son gave it to her, but she doesn't know how it works! So, we called sonny boy from my phone, and he said he was going to come see what was wrong with the car, but that it would take some time as he was in a town about an hour and a half away.
Addie told me she'd be just fine - would sit in the car and read her Bible (I kid you not) until her boy came to get her. I asked if I could drive her home instead, and I did. We called Sonny back and let him know. I could hear him ask her if I looked "safe." LOLOL.
So, I took Addie home, had a cup of tea with her, and a corn muffin that tasted like it was made by angels. When I left, Ms. Adelaide informed me that I am far too nice to actually be from New York, and she held both my hands and had a little word with God asking Him to watch over me and guide me in my studies.
Sugar, I haven't felt that good in a very long time. Ms. Addie and I are going to Wal-Mart and having lunch together on Saturday. I think I made a new pal!
