Remington did two amazing things this past sunday (yesterday).  Oct 4th 2009.

Emilia and Shaun came over to drop off some of Declan's winter clothes that dont fit him.  I layed Remington between my legs on his tummy on the floor to play with Declan.  He usually hates tummy time and I didnt think he was ever gonna learn to roll over bc he hates being on his back and stomache and I dont make him do anything he doesnt wanna do.  I cannot stand to hear my baby cry.  I know, many moms have scolded me for this claiming "crying is good for their lungs, let'em cry"...umm,  I do not agree.

However, in 20 second intervals he is ok on his tummy.  I pick him up after a few seconds and console him and put him back down for a few more seconds.  This goes on until hes accumulated a few minutes of actual tummy time.

Anyways!  He rolled from tummy to back!  I missed it the first time, I was talking to Emilia and looked down at Remi and he was on his back!  I was on cloud nine telling everyone else who didnt notice!  "Remi rolled over!  Omg PHIL!!!  Remi rolled over!"  "Cool..."

Again, no one was as impressed as I was...

That very same evening Phil was playing with Remi on the floor while I was making supper.  From the kitchen I could hear Phil saying "YAY!!!  Atta boy!!!".  I ran in thinking he was rolling over some more.

HE WAS STANDING!!!  He was standing at the coffee table with his arms ontop, supporting ALL of his weight on his own!  And for a couple seconds he could do it without the coffee table!!!

We did this all night long until he passed out from exhaustion.  It was a wonderful night.

Actually I posted the picture of him standing all by himself in that video I posted, its the very last picture.

How many babies can stand up at 4 in a half months old?  Lol, well, I actually have no idea whats normal age for that step.  But im gonna go out on a limb and say hes advanced!  LOL....

And right now hes learning to make a motor boat noise.  Pressing his lips together and blowing air.  : P

Ooop...now hes taking a big crap in his pants....His face is all red and his fists are clenched up by his ears and hes holding his breathe...wooo weee...stinky...Gotta run!

My God, I hate unasked for advice from everyone in the world who knows how to raise your child better than you do, and it's usually someone without children.
"You're gonna spoil him picking him up every time he cries."
    "Yeah? You have kids?"
    "Well, not yet but..."
    "Then shut up."
Anyway, that "good for their lungs" crap is crap.  When you cry do your lungs feel good?

"As for crying being healthy for baby's lungs? Kitzinger and Taubman both agree the advice is "stupid and inappropriate." In her book, Crying Baby, Sleepless Nights, Sandy Jones elaborates, "The real truth is that crying is hard on a baby, and it uses up his limited resources. Although young babies can't help crying, you can tell it is self-punishing behavior. When a baby's cries aren't stopped, his arms and legs tighten, his mouth gets dry, his lips start to turn blue, his lungs probably ache, his blood pressure goes up, the veins in his head may swell and even break, and his blood oxygen level starts to go down, not up."
Here's the site I got this from.

There's no such thing as a spoiled baby, just a well-loved one.

I noticed Remi standing at the table in the picture and I was really surprised. I thought "Wow, that is one strong little guy!"

thank you for that Twyla.  I now am armed with a good come back to that.  I hear that one more than any other piece of advice.  "Let em cry, its good for him!"...I usually just say "no"...but now i can say "No, i dont want him to use up his limited resources" or something like that.  I always thought the same thing i dont like to cry so neither does he.  Yay i was hoping  someone would notice, thats his most recent picture well, i mean its not old.  Ive taken atleast 30 more picturees of him just today.  Thanks twyla!

You are making me cry....('sall ok)   but I remember when mine "stood up" and leaned to walk by hanging onto the brass bed rails and falling down over and over at about five months.  I am with you on the proud mama thing.  Nothing, absolutely nothing, better. He walked at 8 months, but wow.....four months standing....yes.  Advanced!

(watch out for him crawling out the crib at night to make toast or something!)

Oh that's so awesome Star!  I did notice that picture of him standing up and I thought that was so cool, and I too thought that for his age that must mean he's advanced, although I don't have kids, so I don't really know, lol, but I'm with you.  I'd believe he's advanced whole heartedly.  What a strong, amazing little man!  Proud proud proud you should be!

wombie, and hege, i just worry that hes in his prime now! lol...ive heard that before - if they are quick learners as babies it will slow way way down later in life.  Or that was just what the mom of the slow learning baby said...lol i dont know i cant keep all these "sayings" straight.  Wombie, lol about the toast.  Ive told Phil that the idea of a teeny human walking around freaks me out.  Spiders and little people are the only two things in this world im afraid of.  If Remi was to stat walking around before 6 months, omg, i would be a little creeped out.  Its not just advanced, its abnormal.  I dont think he will though.  I was mostly impressed that on saturday he couldnt do anything but babble and kick really hard...totally imobile.  and BAM come sunday he is standing AND rolling over.  Thanks guys, you keeping up with me means a lot. : )

No, no, no, Starchy! Don't listen to anyone but us here at Soulcast!
    (LOLOL)
Babies mature differently, even kids in the same family.  I had one who didn't speak a word other than "ma" and "uh" till he was almost 3. Then he spoke entire sentences like a 5 year old and he hasn't shut up since.  Another one never crawled, he just stood up one day when he was 9 months old and walked.

    Star.....oh, stop worrying....lol...

My daughter never, ever crawled........she just didn't like it...:-)

She was rolling from point A to point B instead ....she liked it in that way because she had understood the joy of laziness very soon...why wasting energy when she could have the same result with a lot less effort?.....Smartie pants....

Then one day...at 8 months... she pulled herself up, stood on the side of the couch, wobbled a little and let go...and walked.........just like that....and didn't stop walking since that day.....;-)

oh twyla and ginger, i love those stories!  Your very right, babies are crazy different.  Now, Remi isnt happy unless im susp, ending him in the air letting him stand.  my arms hurt.  I can only walk him around so much before my back and biceps break.  Seriously though, he will scream, he is no longer content sitting on my lap and playing.  He insists on being "walked".  He is very demanding.  Gosh, you dont even know.  There is no whining with him, mild irritation will make him scream bloody murder, but the instant you fix his problem he just turns it off and is happy.  Complete strangers have commented on how demanding my baby is.  They will see me rummaging through my diaper bag hysterically and Remington is bright red with tears rolling down his cheeks gasping for air screaming death cries.  The bystanders think "oh man, this kid is having a full blown tantrum that poor mom"...or, "my God that mom really needs to do something, that crying isnt normal"...Finally iwill find his parrot and hand it to him.  Immediatly the cries stop and hes smiling.  People around me will laugh "wow, he knows what he wants".

My nephew Tucker is  3 and he is just barely starting to make audible words.  He still isnt potty trained either.
