I've been thinking more about adopting a new feline friend.  B and I are somewhat at odds over how to accomplish this -- he doesn't trust shelters because he thinks the cats there are of questionable temperament.  He thinks we should try to find someone who's looking to find a new home for their cat.

It wasn't a huge deal to me, so we've been sorta kinda on the lookout for a kitty needing a new home.  Last week he emailed me from work, saying that his boss' daughter is looking to get rid of one of her cats.  He gave me her email address, so I contacted her.  She was very enthusiastic, even sent me a few pics of this very handsome six year old cat.  It looked very promising, and I was starting to get excited about the idea.  So...  I emailed her to set up a time to meet.

And...  nothing.  It's been five days, and I haven't heard from her.  Hmmm.  Maybe she didn't get my email?  So yesterday morning I sent her a short message, very friendly and not pushy at all, just to see if maybe she didn't get the other mail.

Still nothing.  I assume she's changed her mind and wants to keep him.  Or she didn't think we would be a suitable home.  Or whatever.  Guess I'll still be looking.  I still think a shelter is a better idea.

Fate has a strange way of nudging us in the right direction Mims.  I guess we'll never know why she didn't get back to you so don't sweat on that.  Sorry you got let down there.

My Harry (my 'pusscat', my 'tubbykins') was originally from a shelter just a few months before we got him.  The family who had to give him up when we got him said he had that great temperament when they first got him.

You need to convince B that these little darling creatures end up in these shelters through no fault of their own and many have the same temperament as any other animal.  Take him round a shelter and you watch his face when he sees those little darlings.  You will most likely find that a little kitty picks you, not the other way round lol :-)

I donno meems, I think I would rather (with my experience anyway) addopt a kitten.. no bad habits only the ones you let them create.  Cats are so easy to box train, and then the rest is easy.  I would be leary as why this person wants to get rid of her 6 year old cat after all that time???  ya know?  Good luck, and I expect to see pictures!

some end up there simply because there was an unexpected litter.  You may just have to take more time to find one with a nice tempernment.  The nicest part is that once you decide to take one, there is no question about whether it will be available.

That's sweet that you are/were willing to take a bit older kitty :)  When I worked at the animal shelters it would kill me to see how some of the adult cats were never adopted! I encourage you to at least take a spin through your local shelter!

Well I think it's cool that you're ready to bring another feline friend into your home.  I tend to have to agree with PC that maybe don't totally rule out shelters, as it isn't the animals' fault they were put there, and further, with some real time put into it, you can still find quite a wonderful companion at a shelter, minus the behavior issues B seems to be worried over.  I'm sure the right kitty will come your way in due time, just be patient, but please, promise one thing ... you'll tell us all about it!  :-)

I think it is a great idea, Mimi.  I hope you find the purrfect furry friend.  My kitten family began as rescues.

Hi mimi- I agree with your husband in that some caution is ok. My inlaws have a cat from the pound that hates everything and everyone who moves, including the one that feeds him. When he isn't growling at someone, he's hiding. If they gave him to me, I'd have grilled catburgers this weekend.

If you don't mind a kitten, there are sometimes ads in the paper for free ones. At least that will keep one out of the shelter. If you get an older one, I'd say go see and hold it first.

Sending a PM for a reason......

Well, I feel like a dope.  I got a reply to my second e-mail -- she must've thought I was nuts.  Seems  she replied to my first e-mail very promptly, and Yahoo, also very promptly dumped it into my Spam folder.  I should've looked I guess, because there it was.  Sheesh.

We'll probably get together later in the week.  Good, now I can be a little excited again.  :)

This kitty is kind of a rescue in a way.  His family had a new baby last winter, and he hasn't been able to adjust to the change.  He doesn't get the attention any more like he used to.  His owner thinks he'd do better in an all adult household.  Guess I'll have to tell B he has to grow up a little.  ;)

Get a dog Mimi, they make the best friends.

I love dogs, mobil, and in a perfect world, I'd have one.  But  I'm not capable of walking a dog and cleaning up after it, and my husband isn't an animal lover (In other words, he won't do it.)  Besides loving them, cats are a good pet because you don't have to walk them and they poop in a little box.  Easy for me to clean up.
