This is the only video of Anna Frank.

That little figurine facing out of the window...

I imagine her mother calling from inside the room asking:
"What's going, Anna?"
And probably Anna saying to her whil turning her head:
"Its the bride, mom""

Little ordinary things.......the things we all do each day, day after day, and we don't know what the future will bring....what action will follow the present action we are taking.....

I found this video so touching.....that little girl with her tragic destiny ready to unfold.....and she smiling at the life.. ...

It gave me such an emotion watching it...

I showed to my daughter...she read her book and she has seen two movies about her...she had been equally amazed...

I just wanted to share it with you.

i hope this world will never repeat the crimes that went on in Anne Frank's life. the courage it took to live the way they did and so many. a black spot on history and how humans can hate.

when i was a girl, brides from the neighborhood would drive slowly thru it on their wedding day, and everyone would look out their windows or hang from their porches to see the bride go by.  Often she would throw candy covered almonds wrapped in tulle....tied with a pretty ribbon to the children....

it's sweet to know anne frank had "normal" moments-  nobody could guess the horrors that lay ahead for her and millions and millions of jews.

M&M......for us knowing what she was going to suffer....it just makes her little moment so much more important...

But then ....would her actions have changed and would she have avoided her destiny knowing her future?

Or the knowing would have had the result of leading her straight right to to her destiny that otherwise she would have skipped, not knowing it?
  • gingersoul said on Oct 03, 2009....
Secret....oh, i used to do the same...:-)

My home building is attached to the church of my neighborhood...... the wall of the church where they play the church bells is basically the wall of my bedroom...

So yes, i saw a lot of brides getting out of their buildings in front of mine and just walking to the church ....

We at the windows would join their circle of family and friends with cheers and applause and would throw to them rice....:-)

Can't view the video, but this makes it even more important that I get out and read the book already.  I know, unbelievable that I haven't yet ... and I don't even know why I never did.

And she died just days before she would have been freed.

Sometimes the sadness will not end.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2009....
Heggie......then get out and read it....lol....

It wil enriche you beyond words...

BeyBey.....i know, right?  Just few days....

Sometimes i wonder if some tragic twists of destiny in some people's lives are meant to be only to teach us/others valuable lessons...

But then....if you really think about it...everything happening to us should always teach us something.....so that we move on or improve.

Sad is more often we don't...we don't see, we don't learn..we just move on per inertia...

In school they just talk about her ordeal, and not her as a person. It's so much easier to put myself in her shoes knowing that she was a normal teenage girl.
  • mobil said on Oct 05, 2009....

I guess what happened to her was sad, but when you look at the bigger picture, if she had lived she'd be close to 80 years old today and completely unknown.

Through her personal writings and her extreme situation this young girl has lived on in the hearts and minds of people the World over. Who hasn't heard of Anne Frank and her story?

    Sad maybe, inspirational no doubt.

  • gingersoul said on Oct 05, 2009....

Cassy......exactly....that's what a good teacher shoudl strive for their students...to make history alive ....

I started to appreciate so much more History when at school i started to read biographies of historical characters or watching movies about their periods......everything comes to life...

They were flesh and bones like us, after all...;-)

    And so was Anna.

Isn't it grand our world doesn't treat people like that anymore?

    *cough*  *gag*

I read many stories by women from the middle east...they smuggle them out through the help of our journalists and can be found in amazon.com

I cannot worry about the 1940's anymore.  I need to stay in the present and hopefully one day do someone in the here and now some good.

However, this video touched me to the core...thanks for sharing.

    Anon.....I LOVE YOU.......;-)

    Speaking.....yes, its grand....

And i am glad you liked it and recognized the meaning of this video...

    Hey...that cough...how are you doing?.
  • speaking_up said on Oct 07, 2009....
ginger...I'm alone, feverish, trying to sort out my mind about my newly deceased mother and the shunning I am endearing.  My health doesn't really matter to me right now...but your asking was so kind.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 07, 2009....
    Oh, even the flu?

Poor thing....drink lots of water and take Vitamic C...

And about the disease of your soul......i am sorry you are in such sorrow...
Give time to the time...it does wonder in distancing ourselves from the present source of pains....it give us perspective.

Don't think too much.....let life run over you like water, like a river.......it could be cleansing.......liberating..

I wish you well and to have a restful sleep.

Thanks for the post, bellisimma - Anne Frank was a great influence in my life.

I visited Het Anne Frank´s Huis (as the house where they hid is called in Dutch) in Amsterdam for the first time during the time I was training for my hotel management apprenticeship in Germany (1997).  It was not on the school´s agenda to go to the museum but we had a couple of hours to spare before we had to go to Heiniken brewery, and so, I together with other schoolmates went to the museum.  It was a rushed visit, and we were lucky that on the day we made the spontaneous trip there were no long lines in front of the building as it is always the case.  It was a dream come true because I have been wanting to see where she wrote her diary ever since I read it as a nine year old girl.

The second time I visited the museum was with Piet :) 10 years later, the Summer we met for the first time.

I am saving a post with pictures about it :) (I know, so many planned posts... but the brain is locking it in until I have dealt with other pressing matters, lol)

    Have a lovely weekend, Gingery!

ginger - YES, you are correct.! But I was too sexually charged for that. It would have been unbelievable that all the women in the place wouldn't have jumped me, so they buried me in layers of old man makeup.

    To hide his powerful performance??

    Mixed......??

Jo-Jo.....it is great that you visited her house....

    Now i can't wait for your post.,......have a beautiful Sunday, sweetie...{hugs}
