Wasn't Barrack Obama supposed to make everyone else in the world love us again?

Come on....wasn't that the reason we made him President?

Why couldn't the ebony dream team pull off landing the 2016 Olympic games?  (B.Obama, M.Obama, Oprah)

They didn't even make it past the 1st round!

Is it really any wonder?

Barrack Obama has been on his "America Sucks" Tour for 9 months now......looks like he sold that message very well!

I'm not taking up for anyone here, but there never was much of a chance for the olympic games in this country next time around. That was well known. It was a hell if you do, hell if you don't situation for him.

It was another thing to grab for those who are always on the attack regardless of the situation. When bush was in office he voiced in public on tv how great it would be to have the olympics here, but demos are in power so the right is cheering the US not getting them.

    Imagine that.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 03, 2009....
D6......ahemm......not, i don't think the reason people voted Obama was for having the Olympics in the States...it was for getting rid of 8 years of an Olympic long abuse of Bush-Cheney team (who wanted the Olympics in US as well)

    I agree with BeyBey....
It was a war lost since the beginning and a lot of people never wanted the Olympics @ Chicago anyway....not because they are against Obama but because of the realism of the numbers..
Olympics brings only temporary relief to the market but when its over is a debts piling mess...

Naturally all the people who don't like Obama now have this reason to cheer.....

But, hey, if this little make them so happy.....cheer to them...;-p

    Psst : ciao BeyBey!...;-D

well of course I am going to disagree with you both....obviously Obama thought he could land the Olympics, otherwise he would never have gone to Copenhagen and wasted all of that tax money to get there.

Can you imagine how big the carbon foot print of the whole operation was?
They didn't even take the same plane!

So either way you look at this, it was a big mistake.....he obviously thought he had more clout with these folks than he did......takes a pretty big ego, dont you think?

I really don't care who got the games....it probably should go somewhere that never had it before......to me this is about the ego of our President....it's about all of the folks who thought/thinks this guy walks on water.....he doesn't even know what he doesn't know.
  • secretlife said on Oct 03, 2009....
Gawd tho you must admit he's arrogant!
Did you hear him speak?  How he'd love to walk out the front door with his two daughters to see the olympics in his hometown.  LOL....yeah, he assumed the whole world was as in love with him as he is obviously in love with himself.  I really think he believes the world revolves around him.

Personally I think we have alot more pressing domestic matters he should be concerned with-  maybe like that 10% unemployment number and the news this week of another 13-14K  unemployed as Saturn closes shop.
  • mOOn_platOOn said on Oct 03, 2009....

    O

Come on now, guys. A president has to spread himself around to all the topics, heavy and light. What do you want, another Jimmy Carter, mired in dilemmas? D6, you seem surprised to confirm that a guy who ran for president has a huge ego. I think it's more surprising to go back and look at the ones who ran who did NOT have big egos. I can only think of two - maybe three - in modern times. Gerald Ford? Harry Truman? And maybe Dwight Eisenhower. Isn't ego ususally a pre-req for thinking you should be the leader? I think the whole Oprah plus Obamas was a bit of overkill. It might have been too thrilling for the decision makers to have a chance to reject such heavyweights.

mOOnie.......i think confidence is the key.....

But not all the presidents had it.......i mean, Bush has zero confidence in himself.....otherwise he wouldn't drink as much as he does or he wouldn't have tried so hard to please daddy
    .
Clinton has confidence in excess, instead..

Come on, a president who stops in the middle of a tv interview to swap a fly and laugh about it..... ..i see some healthy confidence here...;-)

Anyway, i agree.....Oprah has been the big mistake in that Olympics deal..

Secret.......Obie loves his hometown as much as Bush loves his Texas...where is the difference?......;-)
  • secretlife said on Oct 03, 2009....
there's a difference between confidence and arrogance.
i think it's arrogance if you can't speak to the issues without a teleprompter.

and actually, i didn't really think obama was that keen on America at all-  he's been apologizing for us all over the world.  If i think of him in jeramiah wright's church for 20 years i might believe he's a hater of this country.  he certainly isn't a fan of capitalism.  And I know he wants to redistribute what i have and what i've worked for my entire life and i resent it.  especially since he's an elitist who believes he's above all of it.

Then i hear him inviting the olymics to chicago and i know for sure he's just a hypocrite as i've known all along.  it's all politics to obama.  and if you think otherwise then you are just fooled.

  • curmudgeon said on Oct 03, 2009....
D6 - you beat me to this topic! Good job!

Oh man, where to start...Oprah? Oprah? Why? Her American audience is flagging. What makes anyone think that she has any pull in Denmark, of all places, among international audiences who don't give a crap who she is? Remember the Hermes fiasco a few years back?

Shit man, had the Obama's brought David Hasselhof along they would have secured the German vote, at least.

Oprah? Goes to show how little the Obamas know about international politics.

I also have a bone to pick with Obama shilling for his hometown. There are so many other American cities that could have used the Olympic development money far more than Chicago. Detroit comes first to my mind. Turning Detroit into an athletic city could have gone with an overall reinvention of the city as a health care destination - at least, in my dreams. Why couldn't the Obamas have looked past their own parochial concerns and done something for someone other than their old cronies? I mean, he was elected President of the United States of America, not capo di tutti capi of Chicago.

This Olympic failure is just another example of all the world loving Obama because they are free to ignore whatever he says and deny him whatever he wants.

Aww, now the LA Times are covering Obama's smarting backside by saying he wasn't "sold" on the idea of a Chicago Olympics until just a few days before he decided to go.
It seems Obama made a decision based on faulty intelligence and bad advice.
    Sound familiar?
  • gingersoul said on Oct 03, 2009....
Secret......actually, its very good that Obie apologize for the mistakes that America has been doing in these past 8 years....so where is the arrogance?

Nobody wants to be the one at the party that has to clean up after all the drunks have raided the bar and left behind only dirty and empty glasses...but somebody has to roll up the sleeves and do it, right?
And if America voted him is because he said he wanted to grab a broom and sweep the floor......and Americans wanted the house clean...

I don't think i am fooled....i really dislike Bush but i don't love Obie either....i can see the flaws where they are. And in those past 8 Republican years i saw a billions of them...
     .
So if i am fooled, you then are double fooled.....because the people you voted fooled you....and twice......;-).

and really the O team (obama and oprah) i think have an an idea there popularity is more than what it really isquite frankly i would like him to spend more time doing what he was elected to do and less time on daytime/nightime talk shows and pr stunts

I guess the media attention regarding the honor student who got innocently beaten to death by gang bangers didn't concern them any. I'm guessing the hundreds of people who get murdered in Chicago each year didn't bother them any either. It just makes me mad that they have so much power to actually garner attention to a specific problem that they choose not to do. Sure, they can comment on single 'big' events but won't even mention an event continuously happening in a city they know oh so much about. Erg. Are you mad? So am I. I'm mad at the fact that all the 'big' African American leaders, some society-proclaimed and others, self-proclaimed,  won't get out of their denial and make it a point to do something about the violence killing off innocent school children and bystanders. I can't believe they would just let something like this happen...

This is where I question or not the fact we may be in bizzaro world.  Lets see: unemployment keeps going up, Iran is laughing at us and threatening the world, reasonable and logical healthcare reform has about as much chance of passing as Michael Moore winning a diet competition, we are looking at the coldest winter in decades and the economy sucks but the global warming people are still coming up with ways to spend our tax dollars, and what exactly is our President doing?

This is a non-story and really the only part that should be a story is what D6 alluded to which is how much money did these people toss away for nothing?

What happened @ Chicago is just everyday routine @ Rio.

I think that Rio won right because of her dramatic situation...like they wanted give them a shred of hope in their gloomy future..

You know, like the Roman emperors that during the most dramatic times of poverty or political turmoil were giving the masses the Colosseum games ...and the mass would forget for while their conditions...
Its always been like that in history, after all......the rulers know when its time to entertain/distract their citizens..

And about the Republicans...lol.....you nailed it....
If they can't find anything else....personality would do it....

Like Republican presidents a la Bush father and son, Reagan and Nixon had been these amazing flawless characters....
  • anonymous said on Oct 04, 2009....
Well, perhaps those who voted for him DID want a change. Perhaps we ALL did. But check the polls. What do Americans think of "change" now? I dont beleive we've ever seen a President drop so far, so fast. HE says the reason is racism. I say its his agenda, now widely revealed and well recognized by the American people. It will only get worse for this socialist. And, unfortuantely, the country.

Here's an idea, you didnt get the olympics because (a) Obama is a media creation and people are beginning to see that, (b) the scandal at salt lake and the bombing at atlanta, (c) the tv audience for the olympics is centered in south america, europe and they have better distrubtion agreements with the IOC, "Kelly....agreed.....Rio is one of the most violent and poor city in the world..... What happened @ Chicago is just everyday routine @ Rio." FYI the murder rate for Rio for 2005 is 32 per 100,000, new orleans, 52.3, DC 43.9, detriot 41.8, baltimore 38.7, atlanta 34.0, st.louis 32.5, and chicago not far behind at 23.4 so following the logic of gingersoul and kelly guess the usa should be lining up for the next olympics, pan am games, world cup, stanly cup, hell maybe even some tennis games

  • curmudgeon said on Oct 04, 2009....
I just saw a bit of video of Illinois Senator Roland Burris - you know, the one appointed by that Democratic crook Governor Rod Blagojevich (however you spell it) - blaming Bush for Chicago not getting the Olympics.

Burris apparently believes that the world still has a bad taste in its mouth from eight years of Bush.

Strange - all the world is supposed to have looked up to Obama as a new and shining hope of US multilateralism and diplomacy.

And unlike Obama, the Olympics did make it over here when then globally-reviled Bush was President. Go figure.

By Burris' logic, giving Chicago the Olympics would have been a repudiation of hated Bush policies, and a reward for the American People for electing someone the world could respect and work with.

That's not what happened, of course. Obama went on his global apology tour, is apparently going to cough up money to the UN, will soon strangle the economy with his carbon-based nonsense and health-care scam, and is now waffling on Afghanistan - the one war he actually supported - and the IOC still threw him under the bus.

Maybe Obama's global popularity is waning just as quick as it has in the US.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2009....

    Just to make things straight.....

According to the United Nation of High Commissioner for Human Rights:

"Rio is one of the most violent cities in the world, according to a ranking by Web site RealClearWorld. Home to about 7 million people, it recorded 2,069 murders last year compared with 510 in Chicago, a city of 2.8 million and a finalist contender for the games:.....

You can skip the rest......but this the rest of the article.......;-)

Actually it would not have been that much of a coup if Chicago did win. It's not like the USA has never hosted the Olympics before.

I mean, if there is any perfect place for the Olympics it would have been Boulder, Colorado.

Even if the games had to take place in a major city, for Obama to try to leverage his personal popularity to win on behalf of his hometown cronies when so many other cities in this country really need the redevelopment money...it's just so nakedly corrupt that it's a good thing that Americans finally have to face the fact that he is all image and that just because the world says it loves him does not mean that it will heed him.

Bush was way way more effective in that regard.
