I live in a city known to be the first to get flooded when there is a strong rain or typhoon.

And yet we were one of the lucky few who stayed high and dry last saturday when the typhoon ondoy unleashed all the rain it holds. They say it has unloaded a month's worth of rainfall.

Areas where there usually is no flood, got flooded, the worst flood we've had for the second time in history. they said the first was in 1967. But this is in my lifetime. I have actually experienced it,  and saw the live telecast of how people are being swept away by the rain and strong wind.

it makes me feel helpless not to be able to do anything.

Casualties about 140 up to date, 32 people still missing. Damages on property amounting to php 1 billion already.

There's still a lot more people waiting to be rescued, floods in some areas haven't subside yet, eventhough it's been 3 days now.

Floods as high as 50 meters.  Areas hit badly have people staying on their rooftop just waiting for rescue to come. No food no water and no means of finding help, totally cut out from the rest of the world.

Last saturday, we got knee deep flood inside our house. We spend the weekends cleanig up and throwing away the water. While watching tv and feeling grateful for being safe.

My brother in law works for a hospital and he said that their basement parking that's full of cars have been under water and every car in it.

In my sister's apartment building the ground floor apartment have water up to the ceiling.

Some people lost everything they have. family, house, property, business.

ging- thank you very much. I can feel your concern, you're a true friend. My niece angela and me were praying the whole day saturday, we were staying in bed while watching the water rise inch by inch. Thankfully by 8 pm the rain stopped and water level stopped rising too. We thought we might need to give up on the refrigerator because there is no way for us to lift it to a higher ground. We didn't lost anything, just a lot of cleaning and staying at home during weekends because the streets are much too dangerous. thank you my friend.

queenie - hi sis, yes we are ok, my family and I. The whole day we did nothing but send txt msgs updates to everyone asking if they are still ok, how is their place how high the water is now etc. My parents were safer in the province, they didn't get any flood at all. I'm sorry about what happen to your hardware store, but u know some things happen for a reason, and sometimes it leads u to what will really make u happy. Hang on there queen. life goes on, at least for us who were spared. I'm just too grateful I only have wet books to remind me of that day and not a tragic loss of someone i love. Thank you for your heartfelt concern. thank you friend.
