The air is crisp each morning. Chilly too, but in the most pleasant way. A little sweater and it is perfect. I put on my walking shoes and head out the front door. Down the driveway, crunching over little acorns and golden leaves. The sound makes me smile and look around at the changes in the neighborhood. Trees that were lush and green are beginning to take on a more sophisticated look with yellows, reds, and an occasional bare limb reaching boldly towards the perfect blue sky. The fields are an ocean of color, waves of gold bordered by brilliant purple wild flowers. The squirrels are everywhere. Red, black, grey, they all scurry around back and forth, gathering the nuts that will sustain them through the long winter which lies ahead. And for a moment I think of that winter. The months of grey and cold. Of ice and confinement. I tell myself to live in the present. The glorious present. And I set off walking for my health but also for the beauty it gives my soul.
Autumn is a generous gift and I intend to relish each day of the season.
