as i write this, HBO is running serenity, the film continuation of joss whedon's brilliant and way too short-lived sci-fi/western show. firefly. yes, i know, i've previously blogged about firefly: i'm a bit of a fan.

and even though this is like the dozenth time i've seen it, i keep seeing something new in the performance or dialogue or set design. for me, it rewards repeated viewing. i like to believe that screenwriters understand that such stories can drive DVD sales.

i love films like that.

what films do you find yourself watching again and again?

I am jealous. I don't have cable, and as I have mentioned previously to you, I love "Firefly" also.

As far as movies that I really like...

~Trainspotting: if you never had a reason to not do heroin, this one will definitely give you a few. Brilliant, though. And I like Ewen MacGregor.

~Crash. This one had a very profound effect on me.

~AI (Yes, Artificial Intelligence). It still has the capacity to make me cry.

~A Beautiful Mind. It is a beautiful flick. Or I thought, anyway. Sad.

I am sure there are others. But it is very rare that I watch a movie more than once or twice. I really like all of those, though.

I tend to watch parts of movies instead of entire movies, si i usually see them on TV. So when they're on TV again and again, I usually end up seeing the whole movie sooner or later.

    Shawshank Redemption.....many times
    The Matrix
    It's A Wonderful Life
    A Few Good Men
    The River Wild

My wife often gets dvd rentals....I hardly ever choose one (even if I go with her) and most of the time don't watch them either.
  • lioneljay said on Sep 24, 2006....
I have watched the original Star Wars trilogy many, many times. By now there are very few surprises.

A Man and a Woman is another that I've enjoyed over and over again. Because I usually go a few years in between viewings, I do get surprised occasionally.

Casablanca merits repeated viewings. There is something magical about almost every scene in that movie.

I'm sure there are others I could list; many of the Hitchcock movies belong here as well. I've seen most of the major ones several times.

like Jade, i don't have cable too... =(

i can't even watch my cartoons and animes.

btw, i couldn't get enough of the butterfly effect, i really like this movie... it reminds us that every little thing we do has its effect on others. if we change one thing of our past, even just a slight change, the effect would be huge.

i love face off as well, cage and travolta literally "walked on each other's shoes".

moulin rouge is nice... also always with holly hunter and... i forgot the name of the male lead (lol)

i had CD's of these... but i don't know where they are now... i hate it when friends borrow stuff and "forget" to guve it back...

    Shawshank Redemption
    Casablanca
    Face Off
    Crash
    Face Off
    Apollo 13

    and Princess Bride

Almost any hitchcock movie,I will watch over and over.

Oh and LJ, I have watched the original Star Wars trilogy many times as well. :)

I'm a big fan of movies and I always finish it. Some people, when they find a movie is too boring, they can just walk away. I can't. No matter how much it's killing me, I gotta see the end.

    As for movies that reward repeated viewing for me are;

    Monster
    Sliding Doors
    Forrest Gump
    Trainspotting
    Crash
    North Country
    Harry Potter
    LOTR

And many more... I'd basically watch any films that I like over and over again.

    Cheers :)
