I am having to do something that I never thought I would have to, I am having to make a claim on my home insurance.  A couple of nights ago my house was broken into.  In a way I am sort of lucky because a while ago my home was uninsured because I had completely forgotten to ring the insurance company to renew it.

Thankfully they didn’t take much, all they got was a small amount of money and some electrical stuff.  It has cost us though, having to change the locks and repair the window they had damaged.  The main thing is the horrible feeling that someone has broken into our house.  Ever since we found out about it the house has felt different, sort of less homely.

We called the police but they don’t think there is much they can do, I got a crime number anyway, and we are making an insurance claim.  I am hoping that we will be completely covered by our  building and contents insurance to get back the money from the stolen items and the damage to the window.

I never really realised how important insurance was and I think that the website that let you quickly compare quotes for home insurance to cover building and contents from different companies are great.  Without them I could have just put off getting the insurance when I remembered about it because it took so long.

Apparently the people that broke into my house came through the porch window.  We had left it locked slightly open to let some air in, and they wrenched it open.  I honestly didn’t know that they windows were that weak that they could be opened so easily, I will have to be more careful in future.  I just hope they catch the people that did it, I know I won’t get any of my stuff back but I feel that anyone that does anything like this they should be locked up for a long time.
