So I've lost this portion twice now, so it's the quick version for this part. We walked the dog while talking and only got halfway before I didn't have the urge to continue. I was too frustrated. He told me he was mad because of the bonfire, because he felt like everybody else was taking over and it was supposed to be HIS bonfire, and also because he didn't want to plan it around when TFYO could be there.
All right, he has been in charge of this thing pretty much 100% (when to go down, when to light it, how to get down there, etc.) except the actual date. My BIL, myself and TFYO sat down to figure out a good date, and the 26th happened to be it. I was speaking for my husband too, so that way my BIL couldn't do his usual 'I'M taking over this bonfire and it'll be on THIS date and if you can be there good, but if not fuck off.' He didn't do that, I didn't let him.
Further, my husband is out of league anyway as to when he wants to
really have the bonfire. He wants it during the dead of winter. No.
Nobody wants to stand out at some fire, no matter how big it is, and
have to keep turning their bodies like we're all on roasting spits,
just so we can keep our fronts and our backs equally warm (damn
inevitability that whatever's facing the fire will get toasty while the
back gets icy). The rest of us all agree that having it at a time like
now will be perfect.
It won't be too hot so that you can't get away from the heat, it won't
be so cold that you can't find the happy medium, the night air will be
just cool enough that you can walk away if the heat from the fire
becomes overwhelming and cool off, and the fields shouldn't be too
dried out. It makes more sense to do it at this time of year but he
refuses to see it. Just to illustrate how unrealistic and somewhat
selfish he is, last year he was bent out of shape because nobody wanted
to go down and burn the bonfire on his birthday in November because it
was sleeting and like 10 degrees outside. We all wanted to stay in the
clubhouse, in the dry and at least a little more warm, and he got bent
out of shape for a while.
