Eldest had braces just on her top front teeth all summer....she was only nine when they were put in....but now her top front teeth are nice and straight......however. that was just a temporary fix so she can have a twin block. .... she was okay for the first few hours...but then it was dinner time.

the doctor said it will take a few days to get used to them.... she can't talk right now.... she slurrs everything she says and it's hard to understand her...apparently that will go away in a few days.

but when she tried to eat dinner she just burst into tears. She can't grind her food.....it just mashes. ... the orthodontist said that people can even eat steak with twin blocks in....it just takes getting used to how to chew.

she says she wishes the guy who invented them was never born.

she seemed only mildly appeased when i explained what the procedure would involve if we didn't do it this way. *sigh*

surgury....they sever the jaw bone .... having her mouth wired shut for more than a month.....  that just made her cry more.

i keep telling myself that there are so many more reasons for this to be done other than just cosmetic.....because at this point if it was just cosmetic I would be a really horrible mother for putting her through this.

these are the tough things we do because they're the right thing for our kids-
it hurts us as much if not more than it hurts them, but in the end, you'll be so happy you did this for her and she'll be completely clueless and still blame you for everything wrong in her life (lol, only 1/2 kidding!!!)...

    you're doing the right thing.
    don't doubt it.

Awww poor kid!  I know it's not easy watching it, but in the end it will be worth it.  When she has that pretty smile.

That does sound rough, but it is for more than cosmetic reasoning as I'm sure you well know.  Good dental hygiene/health is a must, and it'll be good for her self esteem which means it helps her mentally too.  I hope that her transition to 'getting used to it' goes a little smoother from this point.  ((HUG))

well, she freaked out this morning because they'd fallen out in the night....she was worried that one of them had gotten broken.

i compromised and let her eat half her dinner without them in....so long as she's practicing chewing with them in half the time....after a week i'll have her leave them in all through dinner. but she's so thin...i just couldn't see her going without dinner. *sigh*

it's basically a retainer on both the top and bottom .... it has bumped up parts that go over your teeth to make your jaw go in a different position when you bite down. your teeth don't touch each other.

Whoaaa Poor kid! no wonder she's in tears... the thing is though she'll have beautful teeth and a mouth that works so in the long run its worth it... still the pain in the ass awfulness would be difficult for a girl... ohh fallyn no wonder.  poor damn kid!

That poor thing. And poor you. It is terrible to have to watch the people you love suffer. If you could just bear it for them, you would.
