dyingman reads (5):
It's been a few weeks now and there's no sign of James, my heavyset friend who agreed to be my workout wingman.
James was in a car accident.  He's been absent from work by doctor's orders and I can only imagine that if he can't make it in to work that exercise is out of the question.

James is down and maybe out.  Given my last workout wingman's accident that broke his ankle, I think I may have begun a "Curse of the Dyingman".  Anyone agreeing to exercise with me to keep each other on our toes and achieving ever higher levels of fitness is doomed to suffer a debilitating injury.

If I were a superstitious man, I might be inclined to discontinue this motivational exercise, but I breathe the atmosphere of an academic environment.  Such things are not a part of me and I may be seeking a new victim soon.  I'll give you the heads up as I hear more about James.  He's being tight lipped about his condition and I'm not inclined to pry.

Hi, Secret!  Good to see you again.

    I did send a note.
He didn't offer any details and we're not close enough friends that I feel at liberty to pry.

He's young enough...  I can't see him being down for the count.
I could see how he wouldn't feel up to competing in workouts for a long time and he might be irreversibly discouraged.  You'll recall he's packing a good 100 pounds extra weight.  It's hard to overcome the inertia again after something like this.

We'll both think happy thoughts for him.
