I sat in on a lunch with some female coworkers the other day and had that conclusion smack me upside the head. The topic landed on clothing and quickly morphed into equating even slightly revealing clothing with a lack of morals. I was stunned that such a mindset was so prevalent! Am I a libertine? I was most definitely in the minority (but silent - you can't change peoples minds so easily) as a woman considerably younger than me (but a freak Mormon) opined about a waitress with large breasts in a tightish low cut top being an undesirable sort of individual! The two old bats looked like bobble heads in their agreement while me-in--the-middle sat their rather stony tring to believe my ears. The essence of the conversation was that females wearing anything to accentuate their form are just causing men to think lusty thoughts. Oh please! They're going to think them anyway! It is natural. A woman can wear bagsaggy linen from neck to toes and be sexually appealing to some men. What struck me as absurd was the judgmentalness because none were wearing anything that would pass the Fleet Street test! Capris. Sneakers. Tshirts with kitty motifs. Blouse slit low. C'mon! The young one indicated she wanted to make her sons understand that the lowcut waitress isn't the kind of woman they'd ever want to be with. Well we all have a right to teach our Children as we see fit but I'd hardly call that teaching them well! Oh those boys will gladly associate with the girls in "wrong clothes" but they won't treat them like the humans they are. Way to perpetuate bullshit!
