I've posted this not long ago on a messageboard in response to repetitive stereotyped comments made about Africa. It seems everybody has the same ideas of what Africa is. It's a damn shame! Do people take Africa as a forsaken continent...no, country just to forget about their own issue?
As a senegalese, I don't particularly feel sorry for my continent. I'd rather see the positive sides of Africa without denying that we have some serious problems of poverty, malnutrition & abuse of power.
Africa is a CONTINENT, NOT A COUNTRY!!!
The happiest country in the world is in Africa. I don't remember if it is Tanzania or Kenya.
This is not because the debt of Africa in general is high that people physically suffer from poverty.
This is not because kids study in huts with obsolet manuals that they don't have a good education.
Being rich doesn't mean being flooded with money. people in villages, with only one donkey, a cow & a small peice of land are also rich. they have everything to eat & even sell their products.
Being rich doesn't mean having an occidental lifestyle.
A developed country is a country that knows how to hide its misery.
In africa, even if you don't have a penny, you can have a breakfast, a lunch & a dinner.
Check the rate of AIDS victim in the USA, in Senegal, we have the lowest rate of infected people (4% at a time) it keeps going down. most of the Africa countries have low rates of AIDS. the only countries with a really high rate of AIDS victims are Botswana & South Africa. (85%!!!! at a time)
Most of the diseases attacking people in villages have been eradicated thanks to education.
in all the countries, slavery doesn't affect people socially & culturally
In Senegal, where the Gorea Island is, we don't spend our time complaining about slavery.
You know what is a sign of wealth in Senegal, mali, Ginea, Morocco...? having its own house, not having a light skin.
Darksinned women are extremly beatiful.
Next time you see one of your celebs saying each 3 second a child die from starvation in Africa, ask him where in Africa.
