The page you were looking for no longer exists

For the longest time, I have been contemplating whether I should get myself tattooed or not. I have always wanted one on my lower back (although that is so common these days, don't you think?). But I am afraid that I would regret it in the future. My friends' and families' opinions have always been differing, making it more difficult for me to decide. So now, I wouldn't ask you if I should get a tattoo or not. My question is, would you get yourself a tattoo? And if you say yes, what kind of tattoo will you choose to have?

Decisions, decisions.

I never got one, so I won't be of much help here. I didn't ever do it because I was sure I'd change my mind about what design I wanted or where I wanted it a day or two after I got it.

Also, I thought I'd look ridiculous at 50 with it.

I'm glad I made this decision....I'm getting mighty close to 50!!!

I have two tattoos--one of which happens to be on my lower back--and am soon getting a third one.

Honestly, if you want a tattoo, don't ask someone what you should get. Choose the design yourself. If you find a design you like, wait at least 6 months before you get the designed inked on your skin to see if you still like the design in 6 months.

Also, remember that certain designs will look good on certain places of your body and not others. Getting a tattoo is not about slapping any old design in any place but deciding how a specific design will fit the curves and line of a specific part of the body. A tattoo that will work well on on your upper arm and the curves of the muscles in it won't necessarily work well on the lower back (which curves differently).

Further, talk to a tattoo artist about the design; they are called artists for a reason. They can give you good advice about what will work where on your body and draw up a design for you so that you don't just pick a piece of flash off the wall, out of a book, or off the web.

Also, be sure that before you do get a tattoo, that you go look at the portfolios of several artists. Know what to look for. Is their linework clean and crisp or does it look shakey and jagged. (You don't want shakey and jagged linework on your the outline of the design, btw.)

Not all tattoo artists specialize in all types of tattoos. Some are know for their grey and white work. Some are known for their portrait work. Some are known for their old school style tattoos; some for tribal work; some for new school style; some for Japanese style. So, the style of tattoo may help you determine who you get the tattoo from. Although, most artists are comfortable with more than one style.

It's not a bad idea to go watch an artist do his/her work. See how he/she interacts with clients. Does he/she make them comfortable. After all, you need to be comfortable with someone using a needle to inject ink in your skin.

secretlife, thanks. I've thought of having a tattoo on a body part that's not visible to just everybody because I also fear that it may look weird as I age. But then, having it concealed kinda defeats the purpose of having a tattoo.

Zayda, thank you so much for all the tips! I am yet to find the best artist in my area. One of my fears though is if I get started with one, I might want to have more. Haha.

I am still more on the hesitant side. I will let you know if and when I decide to get a tattoo. Wish me luck!

Art...
Art is different for kids than it is for adults. It is very important for children to be able to create arts and crafts on their own without copying from an adults model...
