Yes, Yes, and Yes.....
How cool that you wrote this post. I think, actuallly, that there was another post like this a couple of years back, because I remember my chance to say this:
I was once in a terrible mess, then swore off men for good. But not long after, I spoke to this "man" in the parking lot at work that always said hi to me.
I had never paid him much attention at all. He had a beard and glasses and hat. I didn't care who he was.
But after my horrible "incident" I heard him say hi one more time.
I looked into his eyes through all that disguise and I saw some compasionate brown eyes.
I asked him out for coffee a few days later.
He showed up with a suitcase and never left.
We will have beeen married nine years this October.
I can still look across the street and see him talking to a neighbor or something, and see those dark brown eyes, as they look back at me sitting on the porch.
So, whatever you saw, I bet it was "something."
I try not to go with first impressions, as I am generally weary of my instincts. More often than not however, my first impressions turn out to be exactly the same as my final verdict about them.
Is it because that I have these preconceived notions about people that my final judgment of them and my initial first impressions be so similar? Hard to tell.
It's a pretty interesting question, though.
As to the eyes being windows to the soul, I haven't really thought about it much. I have been told before that I have inviting eyes. I guess that's generally true as I try to be accomodating when I can.
One thing I noticed about someone's eyes once was that they were filled with a certain... how do you say it... a joie de vie, if you will. Accompanied by a prankster's mirth. If it is at all possible to fall in love with a pair of eyes, it happened to me. :)
As to your eyes, post a pic and we'll tell ya! :D
Maybe not "normally" and maybe I've missed a few good people along the way in my life because of it? But I am sure I was meant to look past that beard, those glasses and hat--and see this pair of eyes.
(btw--he's since shaved the beard, but kept his mustache. And I peeked under that once when he was asleep to see what his lips looked like!)
