For once, I can say I feel no guilt what-so-ever for failing to update this blog for the past week. Last Sunday I drove from my home in Northampton, down the M1, around the M25 and along the M20, to Dover, where I got on a ferry to cross the Channel to France and then onwards to finally, after several weeks apart, see my wife and son – my family.

I swear, the look on Jr’s face as he stood on the doorstep watching me get out of the car, the speed with which he ran down the path, the force with which he threw himself at me and the strength with which he hugged me to him as I carried him back to the house to greet his mother are things that will stay with me forever. It was like something from a movie – the sort of greeting from their offspring that every father must dream of.

Forgive me for not being able to hold back the tears at that point – or indeed from fighting them back now as I recall it.

So this week I’ve spent getting re-acquainted with my family. We haven’t been anywhere special or done anything of note – just spent some quality time together as a family. And for that reason I feel no guilt at all in neglecting this blog.

Some things in life are more important.

We’re going back home tomorrow (Monday) and I still have another week before I have to return to work, so don’t expect many blog updates next week either – I’ll still be doing the family thing.

Marc.....you moved me to tears....sweet post..

You are right...moment like this are priceless and give our life a flavor of worthiness that is difficult to forget.

I have felt the same many times with my daughter too....actually, i can honestly say that when she smiles all the world around me smiles so profoundly she is able to affect my mood, in a way i can't explain.
Its called being a parent, correct?....  ;-)

I am glad your trip went well and you reunited with your family and you have one more week with them too.

You made me remember a trip with a group of friend years ago. We flew from Roma to London. After one week we hitchhiked until Dover, took the ferry and landed in Calais, slept in a barn (infested with country mice...lol...) and kept going until Paris. After visiting the city we hitchhiked again until Roma.
    Great trip.

Sounds like it was a terrific trip. Maybe when Jr is a little older we'll have the chance to do something similar.

I hope you can do it....those are such beautiful places....so full of history...

That trip has been paired only by the one i made driving for 17 states in the Us from Texas to Florida and then up to the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls.

Lots of miles, let me tell you....lol....

You know, I've always wanted to 'do' the great American Road Trip. Don't know if I'll ever do it, but I'd love to travel on old Route 66.

66 is pretty long...soon or later you will stomp on it....:-)
