What are the criteria that would need to be met for you to kill another human being? Would you do for fun, would you do it for money (if so how much?), would you do it only in self defense?

When I'm stuck in traffic, occasionally I get the urge to shoot everyone in a fit of road rage, though I must say I'd never act it out.

Defending one's country? One's family? Oneself? I'd kill in those instances, I think.

Grape, me too!! LOL.... I loathe traffic jam! Jakarta's is one of the worst....argghhh..... :)

I'll kill when I need to defend myself and / or my loved ones...
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 19, 2006....
prevention of more death, defense of others, defense of myself.

the prevention of more death is important: i would cheerfully shoot a terrorist bomber.

hmmm...when i meet inconsiderate people, like those
who push me aside, step on me (literally), or those
who light up fireworks at 1:30 in the afternoon when
everybody's asleep for siesta and it's in the middle
    of summer!

traffic jams..lol good thing I don't have a cannon or machine gun mounted in my car...when people inconsiderately cut me off and make me hit the brakes...arrrggghhh.....

in self-defense...have already been the victim of crime and suffered broken leg as result (years back).

In the moment, if I had to, I would. It would have to be a major struggle or clear and present threats to take my life or my child's.
  • rmuxagirl said on Sep 19, 2006....
I would have to say that I would only kill for self-defense, defense of my family/friends.

But like silver said; prevention of death is more important....i could/would kill a terrorist bomber.

Self defense (including defense of family & loved ones)
    Defense of country
Prevention of more death - a good one I might not have thought of, thanks SW. ;)

I'll plead the fifth on the money bit...

Termination of another human is not such an easy decision for the general public. This is because it is thought to be an instinct, and therefore from our mesolimbic portion of the brain, also sometimes referred to as reptilian brain. This is possibly the most ancient part of our brain, and therefore other instinctual aspects are attributed to this center of the brain such as the will to reproduce, eat, etc. So killing is an action by which 99% of us would only do in a situation that reverted our decision to a kill or be killed situation. And even though most of you say you could do it, most humans have to be trained, or conditioned, to overcome the input of other brain centers, like the frontal lobe cortex (which they believe helps to support Superego, or moral decisions) to be able to kill another human. It's easier, therefore to kill someone from a distance, than one on one, eyeball to eyeball because fear and "fight or flight" reaction usually intercedes. (Most people when posed with the potentiality of dying as a result of fighting a visible foe bent on destroying them will run instead of fight.) That is just human nature on an average. Especially when that individual has not been trained to kill, or has superior moral values regarding the worth of a human life.

Training is when repetitive behavior is administered to override normal "nurture" Superego doctrines taught at a young age by authority figures. This training is what is provided in the armed forces, both military and civilian.

Assassins are trained to kill people for a specific ideal whether that be for a group, country, or individual. A murderer is someone who kills for no ideal, but rather for emotive reasons, or financial reasons, or by mistake.

Feelings of extreme anger during driving or any other activity that results in wanting to do physical harm to another is the result of not having a satisfied ego. ie you are frustrated in some aspect of your life whether this be job, sex life, family, friends, social status, etc. If you have feelings repeatedly of extreme anger you should attempt either through personal introspection, or aided evaluation (psychotherapy) to determine the source of these feelings of frustration. This will help to alleviate depression and anxiety, and potentially open up your life to more positive influences.

    peace,
    JB

I wouldn't hesitate in defense of my family, or in self defense.
If I was serving my country, I'd kill.
If I was able to prevent a mass killing by killing one, no doubt...

I've only dreamed on injuring in the car....you know, like 'if only i could whack him really good!'

Are you going to come back at us with the 5th commandment?

I agree with silverwhisper. Anyone, and I mean a person bent on evil such as a terrorist or someone attempting to murder an innocent person, I would be prepared to snuff the bastard if it would prevent an innocent death.

I would kill in a blink of the eye to protect my daughter. My family and my friends. And naturally self defense...

i would go easy on declare i would kill for my country.... but in a situation like the Second World war i would have been a partisan fighting against the Nazi, that's for sure, and i would try to kill as many of them as possible....

I would kill a pervert, serial rapist and sexual offender against children with no regret....for one of them who countless children can grow without any more fears

That's a tough question to answer without actually experiencing the chance to kill a person. Well, for fun or for money would be out of the question for me. Perhaps, if it came down to it - if I needed to kill for immediate self-defense or the defense of a loved one, and adrenaline was running high, and the decision must be made quickly - then I guess probably I would.

But if the killing does not seem immediately necessary - if there is any chance of some other solution and no immediate threat, then I would not. This largely stems from my beliefs regarding the nature of reincarnation. I believe that killing for revenge or punishment, for example, is not only wrong but very stupid, because that person is denied their chance to change themselves, and will come back in their next life the same way, probably with some sense of needing to take revenge themselves. And thus the cycle never ends. A person needs to have the chance to change themselves... otherwise that same creep gets reborn over and over again, repeating their actions endlessly, in life after life.

Got interupted by work. Of course I would try to incapacitate the villain first but if he died by accident while I was trying to protect someone else... oops!

His family would probably sue me but the way I see he shouldn't have been trying to kill other people in the first place. Live by the sword...

tellya what... its all well and good to kill in self defense, but for the sake of your mind you'd better be right.

My cousin was in the Army (hmmm... 10 years before I was a Marine?) so in Desert Storm. For those of you who aren't familiar with checkpoint techniques and passwords, they change often... and a man kept walking towards my cousin's point after he challenged for the password. My cousin had to shoot him in the face, from very close. Turns out the man was a friendly (not american, but working with us in some way). Messed my cousin's head up for a good long time. He stayed in the Army, but I don't know that he ever quite forgot that feeling.

    But it must be done.
  • Indiefilm said on Sep 26, 2006....
Bordy: I live by the philosophy that if a guy with a fully automatic weapon is telling me 'stop, or I'll shoot'. I'd stop. Unless I had it in for him, (or was suicidal) then I'd keep moving.

But that would still mess with your head...
  • Bordy said on Sep 26, 2006....
it was a language issue, I'd imagine. And the guy didn't know the new password.
  • Indiefilm said on Sep 26, 2006....
umm.. screaming guy at check point with a gun pointed at your head seems pretty universal to me... I might not speak spanish or french or itallian, hebrew, or arabic, but I can usually tell when someone speaking it is agitated. If nothing else a raise voice and a raised gun would give me pause...

but not being in that situation however, I don't have a really solid base to be argueing that point. He (your cousin) undoubtedly did the right thing in that instance. Right and easy aren't always the same thing.

I know that i must protect my child but i can't do anything to avoid him from being hurt ,now he got many scar left on his face ,he should have grown into a hansome boy without those marks of injuries, now I can only pray for him ,I am always a weak woman ,a weak charactor ,I hate myself
