OOOOOO this is such a good question but first I have to say this. Don’t use the political blogs on Soulcast for political information because we are all bias (including myself). Reading the news is obviously a good way to gain an understanding of politics however in reading it you have to make sour you read form lots of different sources in order to collect all the facts and develop you own opinion. The main thing however is not to look at politics form a religious perspective, I say this as a Catholic.
Now to answerer your questions. With regards to health care as a Socialist I would support a complete nationalisation for the health care system. Admittedly however this is not my strong point so I tend to avoid these discussions on Soulcast but there are some very knowledgeable people on this site who have very strong views on the subject so you would be better getting an answerer on that form one of them.
Security however is my strong point. The questions regarding the subjects that you presented are perhaps the most pressing in the realms of security but they are also the most difficult to answerer. The Middle East question is very, very complicated in order to properly answerer it one has to have a good knowledge base on a number of different topics such as different terrorist groups, a good understanding of the Islamic faith, know about the history of Islam and of course the politics of Islam and Islamic states. Instead of asking what should be done to “fix” the problem the question should be what can be done to reduce the threat and what should have been done in the past because it can never be truly fixed. As things currently stand there are a number of changes that need to be made for example America should take a more natural stance in Israel and the Palestinian Territories because the status quo is a major contributing factor in motivating an Islamic terrorist.
I am against Obama’s aggressive policy towards intelligence particularly getting rid of a number of high ranking intelligence operatives who gained vast experience in the aftermath of 9/11. On the other hand however the pictures that came out of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo bay were also a factor in motivating terrorists, therefore one could reasonably argue that Obama’s current stance on intelligence is justified. It’s all about balance if America comes across as to aggressive it motivates further attacks however if America is passive with terrorism it could appear week and be venerable to attack. Everything is about balance and the scales are very sensitive but in order to totally understand these subjects you really have go and read the books on it and official reports.
As things stand in North Korea I don’t see it as posing a credible threat to America, i say this for a number of reasons. The main one being that if North Korea was to present its self as more of a threat to America, then America could paralyse their entire country over night. Other than that there is also some recent evidence to sagest that the North Korean government is becoming less stable as Kim Joung il appears to be in poor health and the uncertainty surrounding his successor. This in the short time points to North Korea being less of a threat because no one wants to go to war with an unstable government. There is also significant evidence to sagest that North Korea does not have the capability to attack America with a nuclear warhead or has the technology to even attack America with conventional weapons because there recant ICBM tests have all failed. There are a number of other reasons why I don’t think North Korea is a threat to America but that is for another time. Getting back to your question I think as president the best thing to do is keep up delicate diplomatic talk’s, get North Korea back into the 6 nations talks and then possibly a meeting between Obama and Kim Joung il.
In response to your question about the economy I would direct you towards an economist because they are the only people who really understand what’s going on. I do have enough knowledge i belief to answerer your question about the dollar. The problem with the dollar just now is its being attacked on three fronts, the first obvious one being the dreadful state of the American economy .Secondly calls for a new dominate market currency something the Chinese and Russian’s have been pushing for. OPEC are looking to change the way they trade there oil from the Dollar to the Euro this will force other oil exporting countries to make the same change in time. Such a change will mean that a sate has to hold less dollar reserves in favour of more Euro reserves and therefore the Euro would become the dominate market currency. Thirdly something called the triffen paradox which exposes the problems with being the dominate global market currency. I think it is inevitable that the dollar will be removed as the dominate market currency within the next 10 or 20 years it just doesn’t make sense why should the rest of us have to trade in the dollar?
