I had wanted to write my first blog for a while but was held up even after I have resigned from my job! Ridiculous, you may say but that’s what’s really happening!

About two years ago, in an attempt to re-organise, my previous employer created a mid level management position. A new boss with no experience in my area of work was placed over me. A lawyer by training and one with stage charisma, he was able to entertain many with his wit and creativity. Alas he was unable to fulfill his role as he has no management skills. He hardly called for meetings and when he did, instead of conveying directions from top management, he chose to profile himself. Many projects were complete flops due to his “last minute” decisions. After much struggle and a few meetings with my former GM and Director, I decided it was time to go.

I tendered my resignation and served three months notice and even so, he did not make time to meet me for a proper handover. I am still receiving emails directed by his secretary, mails from external parties seeking help. After stopping work for two weeks, I am still back about twice to thrice per week to help out – mainly for the sake of the staff who once reported to me, and my clients. How can this go on? What should I do? Surely I should not be representing the organization anymore? If anything goes wrong, who will cover me? Should I get in touch with higher management?

Hello morningcalm; personally I would think you'd done more than enough by now and that by continuing to bail them out you are putting yourself in a very awkward position.

I presume that as you aren't employed by them anymore so anything you do on their behalf won't be covered by the company insurance thus, imo, leaving you vulnerable should anything you do or recommend go wrong.

My advice is to stop responding to the emails, block them if you have to and get on with your own life.
