Twitter is the most-recent relevant voice for companies, and SEO go getters have quickly learned how to turn the tweet trend into an advertising tool. Twitter is a great way for companies to get their voice, and product, known. There are, however, a few missteps that can kill even the strongest Twitter campaign.

 

The most important thing to remember is not to irritate. Don’t fall into the habit of tweeting about everything little thing. If you tweet about irrelevant things just to keep your posts “current,” people will probably assume you’re a spammer and unfollow you. Save your tweets for very relevant and powerful things. And no, the refilling of the water cooler does not count.

 

Also be particular about what links you tweet. Make sure it’s relevant to your product or service, and don’t tweet every single thing you come across. Give people a reason to follow you. Be a powerful provider of links,  not a spammer of unrelated or semi-relevant sites.  One of the biggest irritation to some twitter followers is the use of curse words by “professional” profiles. If you’re trying to get your product or service out there, don’t cuss. Exactly how do you think using a few 4 letter words is going to promote your product? Some marketers think it makes your campaign look cool and “with it.” Let me tell you - It Does NOT. All it does it make you and your company look unprofessional.

 

Don’t let your twitter get the best of you. Use a level head and keep in mind the basics of any marketing campaign: be relevant, be unique, and provide quality every time. Be professional and your twitter campaign will be a successful SEO choice.
