when i was younger, i never used to snack. never. i was a notoriously difficult eater as a baby, somewhere along the line, that changed, and i've spent every meal since then making up for that late start.

in the past few years, i've become a snacker. i don't know how or why, but it did.

so when you snack, what do you usually reach for?

p.s.: as always, my answers later, yadda yadda yadda...

Popcorn's always a favorite. And chocolate is always welcome.

Ice cream's better than booze to perk you up.

    Something savory's always nice.

you're in an "eating" mood again, silver...

potato chips or (don't laugh) fried banana is a good snack for me.

    hahaha! ever the food guy!

i did mention fried bananas, but i also eat fresh sweet bananas for snacks too.

    queer but true. ;-)

Moonpies--any variety. Banana, and the new Strawberry, are my favorite. I like to nuke them to where they are slightly soft and warm.

I don't know if this counts as a food, but it can certainly feel like an entire meal if you drink enough: milk. I love skim (good ol' water milk), so cold little flakes of ice float throughout.

if there were Ding Dongs and Yodels in the house, they would be the first to go. That's precisely why we don't have them.

lately I have been eating more fruit, like fresh peaches from a local orchard.

bananas are a regular thing for me because one of the meds I take affects my potassium level.

I bought one of those $1 fundraiser chocolate bars last week and extended it's consumption over 5 days. I was proud of that.

I reach for tortilla chips - and hot salsa.

I tend to reach for chips or popcorn....but most of the time those don't work and I still have the munchies...
  • LayaMaria said on Sep 18, 2006....
Tortilla chips with salsa (or mayo or cheese dip :p) ... cornick (dried spiced corn)... barbecue (especially isaw... that's chicken intestines nyahaha...)... chicharon(pork skin crackling)...batchoy (described in my blog entry food trip etc.)... chicken macaroni soup...

No, I am not particularly fond of balot(boiled fertilized duck egg eaten with a dash of salt) :p

Leftovers, generally. My wife has mad skillz in the kitchen and generally makes plenty so that we have lunches and snacks for later. I'm a bit of a pig, though, so usually my snacking turns into a full-on meal...

My kids and I are always playing with our food so we make caterpillars out of bananas, pretzels, chocolate chips and peanut butter or snowmen (or animals) out of popcornballs, marshmallows, candies, icing and chocolate chips. You see I like a variety a foods when snack time comes around for me.

There's also the meats and cheeses that I like to snack on or is that a meal? And the fruits and raw vegetables.

Since I'm trying to lose some weight I'm trying to lose the snacking habit...
but as far as snacks go...if it doesn't move fast enough...I'll eat it...that said... chicharones...hmmm fried pork rinds and you can make them out of chicken skin too...delicious.
Potato Chips, popcorn, empanadas (small meat pies)they make different varieties-like ham and cheese, pastelitos of guayaba(guava pastels and also cheese ones )...something that there's not much of here in the states is dulce de leche,my wife and daughter go nuts over that...you can make it at home by boiling condensed milk in the can (for about 20min)
the longer you boil it the darker it gets...very sweet...
on cold days in South America Churros with hot chocolate is a must (churros is fried dough). Those bars of nuts and berries and/or just a regular merienda--like the english tea time. Coffe and milk with toast and jam/butter/whatever is at hand.

I try really hard not to snack, but usually when I do it's something salty or a combination of salty and sweet. Most recently I had a blueberry cereal bar but sometimes my snacking has me munching a fistful of potato chips. When that happens, the guilt gets to me and I go for some carrots the next time I'm hungry.

    has Déjà vu

i usually go for something salty and crunchy--baked pita chips and hummus usually hit the spot for me. i try to keep them both on hand in our kitchen because i feel less guilty muching on pita chips and hummus or raw veggies and hummus than i do chips.

the other salty thing i reach for is popcorn--sometimes sprinkled with cayenne powder, sometimes sprinkled with parmesan cheese and italian herbs, sometimes sprinkled with cumin and chili powder.

Right now I'm munching my way through a bag of almonds.
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 19, 2006....
usually, i'm a big fan of chips & salsa (if they're present), crackers and cheese, or hummus (again, if present). if not, i'm finding i like toast of late.

Zayda, if I bring the movie, will you bring the popcorn? I'll take two parts cayenne mix to one part each fresh cheese and Italian herbs.

Fried okra! It's my absolute all-time favorite!...yes, I know it's horrible for you. But so is smoking, and I do that, so--everybody's gotta die of something, right?
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 21, 2006....
glutton: really? fried okra? i'm guessing that's something you prep yourself rather than buying it in the store?

LJ--Just what movie did you have in mind?

I could use a movie night.

Would like a beverage with your popcorn?
  • Zayda said on Sep 22, 2006....
I've developed two new snack addictions--wasabi peas and hot and spicy almonds. Mind you, I am not eating them together.
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 22, 2006....
oo, spicy almonds sound very good to me. hm...maybe w/ a dusting of cumin?

I am thoroughly disgusted with myself. God above, why do I do this?...
We have had bunches of posts on food, but have we ever talked about...
On Friday i was working at the salon kinda late. Phil was waiting for me at the bar because weve started car pooling to work together. Lucky shit had to wait at the bar across the alley from the salon for 4 hrs, there just wasnt any way around it : P.....
I'm a hotel chef at the mo. Nothing special, just your usual pretencious crap - huge white plates with a tiny amount of food in the middle being overpriced. And on Satuday we had a wedding, where the guests were paying £2,625 for the food....

It's hard to pinpoint because we all have to eat, but truly there are FOOD ADDICTS rampant among us, whose misuse of food is as evil and harmful to the world as any other extreme form of behavior...
