Who I am or where I am living. I think we both have established how revealing I am otherwise. :)
  • JadeLondon said on Sep 17, 2006....
Hey! Why did it capitalize my tag?!
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 17, 2006....
b/c that tag's probably been used before and the person who first used it typed it that way, but t hat's just a guess.

    ed
  • JadeLondon said on Sep 17, 2006....
Well, that is highly annoying--the tag simply SCREAMS at me!

Besides your age, what wouldn't YOU reveal? You know--you do have the tendency to do that: post juicy topics, then keep mum. :)
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 17, 2006....
like yourself, i will not give my proper name or location. there are also certain details i won't give such as my job or industry, which could also be used to identify me. age and consequently actual date of birth are in that same category.

basically: anything that i think would be used to identify who i am, etc.

when have i not actually answered my own question?

  • secretlife said on Sep 17, 2006....
I have no idea what i won't reveal...

    SW:
You're right it is simple, and like you and Jade; I will not say anything that jeopardizes my anonymity. Otherwise, I am not afraid to let my opinion be known.
Curiously, how would revealing only your industry give you up? (Or is that answer classified too?) lol!
  • happykat said on Sep 17, 2006....
    I find that I'm more tight-lipped than I thought I would be.

(which defeats the purpose of me starting this whole blog business...)
  • JadeLondon said on Sep 17, 2006....
    Silver: I am calmly awaiting a trout-smack.

(Jade lowers her head, resigned to her fate.).

I misphrased myself. I suppose you DO answer your questions. You have mastered the ability to say little, and yet say much.

I think I momentarily confused your relative silence about your personal life--

But yes, you do answer your own questions...
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 17, 2006....
HK: well, i think i understand why. :>

    jade: i'm a very simple creature. :>

    btw...

my true identity, my actual birthdate--the year, detailed descriptions of myself. (i will reveal some things--but not enough that you could draw a picture of how i look.)

i've revealed my profession, which i suppose could easily used to track me.
  • scalywag said on Sep 17, 2006....
I tend to tell quite a bit (translation...I babble) but sometimes I will be vague on purpose, when I feel I need to.
  • CreativeWoman said on Sep 18, 2006....
I try to keep my most identifying traits to myself. No one that knows me would ever believe I write about the things I do here anyway.

Much like others I won't reveal anything that could be used to positively id me but additionally I won't reveal anything specific about my children or that is private to others who I am close to.
  • Expendable said on Sep 18, 2006....
Where I am is a big one. But if you're really interested, $40 and a good bottle of vodka to someone in the Russian Space Program might turn up absolutely nothing.

My name is another. I don't like sharing it.

And there's some personal stuff I won't talk about. I think that's true for everyone.
  • quidnunc said on Sep 18, 2006....
    my full name...

    my complete address...

    my actual date of birth...
  • quidnunc said on Sep 18, 2006....

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Sep 18, 2006....
Name, address, names of other family members/friends, email, phone number, all that good stuff...I'm sure there are topics I'd hesitate to post about as well - no politics for me, thanks.

Honestly, that I am new to blogging!!!
  • lioneljay said on Sep 18, 2006....
I have a very simple rule for posting, well two actually. First, like others here, I do my best to make it impossible for someone who does not know me to figure out who I am. Second, and this really speaks to the depth of personal information that I share: I post as if my wife were reading everything. We are both rather private people (she a little more so than I) and so I never share information that I'm certain she would not want to see made public. That keeps me honest, so to speak.

  • totally_cd said on Sep 18, 2006....
that is what i like about blogging, i can let my alter ego do the talking and keep my identity secret!
  • InterplanetJanet said on Sep 18, 2006....
Nothing to identify me or anyone I know. I disclose my profession because I am one of thousands of lawyers and without other information, it would be impossible to find me.
  • Indiefilm said on Sep 18, 2006....
I'll give some general details about my interests, or hobbies / projects I'm working on. I wont give out where I'm at or who I am. Not here.

I especially wont give out important plot points on projects, I might give a premise, but not much more than that.
  • anarchist said on Sep 18, 2006....
    (1) Names of people I write about. I usually use nicknames for these sort of things. (2) LJ. because it reveals ME more. (3) YM. (4) Friendster. And OH YEAH! (5) Real name. :D
  • starlightstarbright said on Sep 18, 2006....
I have nothing to hide. There are some things about myself of course, like my identifying information, (where I live, my real name, etc.) that I wouldn't reveal for safety's sake. Other than that, I have no skeletons in my closet.
  • RollingC said on Sep 18, 2006....
I'll reveal the city (or area) where I'm from and where I was born, travelled to, etc. but not the exact address. I mean Southern Florida is not exactly a small place and due to the anonymity of SoulCast...who's to know if I'm really living here, or next door to one of you....Buaahahaha.
Other than that I won't reveal exact details....

kidding aside...I'm beginning to see some spammers(?) and slur mongers on other posts so it's a good idea to keep your real ID to yourselfs....
  • lioneljay said on Sep 18, 2006....
SW, that distinction also keeps me from incriminating myself in public. ;)
  • Apollo said on Sep 18, 2006....
As SW said: anything that I think would be used to identify who I am, etc.

Though I wonder about when one should comment anon. When should we speak in the shadow and when should we stand and be recognized?
  • anonymous said on Sep 18, 2006....
the shadow nose.... i mean knows...
  • Jenna said on Sep 18, 2006....
I guess I am the same as most here. I won't reveal my real name, or anything to identify my family. (Although, I have shared my real name and phone number with one new friend here.) But I felt quite safe in doing so. I sometimes wonder if I have shared too much....I have shared my profession, many deep feelings and situations. Sometimes I find I won't post because it reveals too much about my feelings. I wonder why I hold back because the odds are, we will never meet.
  • purple said on Sep 18, 2006....
I'm surprised that no one stated the obvious answer. Since we know adsense will kill our accounts for profanities and subjective 'blue' topics, there is a lot I no longer say on soulcast. I save those bits for other blogs not connected to Adsense. Pity. Also kind of defeats the whole purpose; I joined soulcast to have an anonymous blog. None of us are anonymous to adsense, rather a conflict of interests as I've pointed out before.

Early on I realized that I couldn't both market my businesses online and be anonymous at the same time. So there are people that know who I really am, and even my home address since the ever so stupid government decided to list it on search engines when I got a resale number. Why do they care if I'm murdered in my sleep as long as the public knows who they are hiring or buying stuff from? Even though it's technically a 'home occupation permit' it's considered a business license and on 'public record', which means if you knew my real name you could look me up and come on over.

Even so, Internet aside, all of you can be followed in real life from school to home or work to home, or from the mall to home, so the only thing that really keeps us safe is that most people are not homicidal maniacs. Any myth of personal safety is just that, and that applies whether we are on line or not.
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 19, 2006....
purple: how precisely is adsense related to the personal safety issue? i don't understand your meaning here.

  • LadyGamer said on Sep 19, 2006....
    Yours.

I will never divulge information shared with me by anyone else in private.

*I* am an open book. You are not and should not be forced to be by someone else.
  • dearie54 said on Sep 20, 2006....
I won't reveal identifying information about my husband and my children. Likewise, friends and extended family. I will never reveal things told to me in confidence.

About myself, I won't tell you my name or where I live, but as for anything else, I have to say it's situational. Of course there are some things I won't reveal, but I don't have a specific list.
  • purple said on Sep 20, 2006....
    SW:
That was two different issues. Maybe I should have said Part 1 and Part 2.
