Hi everyone, well I have to say that having an MRI was an interesting experience. It's like being inside a Techno DJ's headphones.

The machine is just like I've seen on Hospital TV shows. Sort a tunnel with a place to lie down and get rolled into it. But it's noisy, alright. Makes sounds like a Fender Stratocaster guitar with the fuzz pedal down and the guitarist hammering one chord for quite a while, then another, then back to the first.

I amused myself trying to work out the chords. Seriously.

It turns out Mrs Chromosome was mainly worried about my backbone and head problems, so she --

Stop giggling in the back, there! Okay, sounds funny, i know, but it's because I was in a car smash some years back that almost killed me and left me with a bit of residual pain, shall we say...

More than a bit, to be honest, not that I'm complaining. A least I lived.

It seems one of the reasons that Mrs C wanted me checked out is because I tend to forget things. Like for example, I found out today that she had told me days ago exactly what all this MRI was about. But I...ummm...Well, I forgot.

Stupid of me...

Anyway, Mrs C talked to a surgeon friend and he ordered up scans for head and backbone, as well as various joints and so forth. Today they did my head and spine. The other stuff can wait a while. Not so high on the list.

Results? I don't know yet. The doctor has to analyze everything and write the reports, which we can pick up on Tuesday. But at least they didn't look overly concerned.

Well, they let me go home, which is usually a good sign.

So I'm hopeful. Even if there's a bit of brain damage, that's probably all it is.

There are worse things.

Thanks to everyone who has given me encouragement. I'll keep you posted.

PS: Mrs C and I are taking off to the country. Just for a day. But I'll catch up with you all soon. I have a lot of posts to read and comemnts to write!

Bye for now,

Whyc

i hope you don't have a wrong turn on the way back to your house:)

It's lucky that you can proceed for MRI for tool of detecting your problem. In my country, only the middle - to uper class group that can afford this. For some people, MRI seems like impossible. Cost for MRI is very high. Normal people they cannot afford MR as they has to pay cash.

If you're talking about MRI in public hospital, u need to wait for at least 2-3 month sometimes even for 5 months appointment for this MRI. The worse part is, if some people came for disease that really need MRI to conclude the diagnosis - then, patient might die/ conditions worsening before final diagnosis are made.

    Anyway, I wish u luck

I am glad you had such a positive experience. I found it confining, and it inspired a little bit of claustophobia.

The technician told me some people actually had to be given Valium before they were scanned.

AsKimiNaRut: That is the same here. I live in the States, and although my children want for nothing, we still live at poverty level. The MRI I had done was only covered in part through my auto insurance. Often times, the insurance companies are charged doubled for the same service.

Paying in cash goes a long way.

The difference I can see, however, is that the waiting period here seems shorter.

I agree: five to six months IS a long time. That is plenty of time for a fast-spreading cancer to kill you.
