This is not really part of my WHY series, but I just want to answer the questions that relatives, family, and friends alike have been asking me.

I graduated last March, just this year. I'm twenty-two. Mix-bred Filipina. An injured athlete. I'm female, independent, ambitious, and a dreamer. An anarchist, so to speak. I've been called for a couple of job interviews a few weeks ago but I found myself still restless not finding what I'm still looking for.

The first company that called me up is a company called John Clements Consultancy. They thought I wanted to be a call-center agent. I'm sorry, but I didn't work hard for the degree I hold now just to be work at a call-center*.

The second company called me is Canon Business Solutions. Job opening: HR Assistant.
What they offered: Administrative Assistant.

Ma'am L, are you interested in working as an admin assistant?
Er.. what's the job description?
Oh. You will be handling mail, photocopying, and papers.
Er.. thank you for the offer but I would like to pursue my application for opportunities in your HR department.

Third company was better. Maersk Filipinas. Job opening: Management Trainee
What they offered: Director of Operations

-- This was what I was banking on getting. Maersk is a multinational company with a very stable reputation. If I wanted to become part of the corporate world, this would have been it.

Fourth company: Canon Marketing. Job opening: Marketing Assistant

Fifth: MondeNissin Philippines. Job opening: Psychometrician

[screams and pulls on hair]

There are so many good offers out there. They never called back.

So. Is it just me or haven't I found the right job yet... despite the variety of positions I applied for.

Don't you get on my case, too.

I know.
I haven't found the right job for ME yet.

*No offense to those who do work for call-centers.

i don't know how it is there, but here in the US, you pretty much have to harrass the guys that interview you to show that you're dedicated.

    good luck

I remember sending in 100's of resumes and going on soooooo many interviews. Sometimes, if a company has potential for the future, you take something less than you'd like just to get your foot in the door.

That's what i ended up doing, and after only a year, I was where I had hoped to enter....

When I was graduated 2 years back, I went through so many multinational interviews where I have a high expectation on landing a jobs with them. But finally I was ended up in a call center. I took the offer and work on from there as I believe I need to set my foot in that MNC first and work on from there. After a year later, I was promoted into their management team and had been transfered to various department to enrich my job and later I was head hunted by different industry- based MNC which offer a great remuneration package to me.

My advise is, just try to get yourself into the company and work smart from there.

ed, oh, i'm the first one to be fierce to show dedication. usually, i'm the one who calls the company up to see my job application status. maybe they don't need the fierce-ness.

Be careful of falling into the trap of thinking that a job can define you. Too many people believe that if they just get the perfect job things will be perfect. I think as long as you're working for the man things will never be perfect.

I am not fresh out of college, I'm 53 years old and that is a problem because the employers would rather hire a younger person. If I take a job at the grocery store there is no way I can pay my bills, in fact I can make more money working odd jobs for cash which is what I have been doing. You may want to take a look at this blog for some ideas. http://tommybullard.blogspot.com/
