I was have taken part in a few debates recently regarding Islamic terrorists and I have became concerned with some people’s views that “Muslims are evil” this view I feel is counterproductive and rather insulting. But I can understand why people could hold this view in a world were Islamic Terrorists are all over the news and in some cases just down the road, however not all Muslims are terrorists. Historically it has been us Christian’s in the west that have terrorised them for example the crusades and the Spanish inquisition. Saying that however I would like to say that I have no sympathy with Islamic extremists, there acts revolt me.

Islam is not evil but there are people who have interpreted the Qur’an in their own way and what they have extracted is truly evil. The problem people in the west have is that they hear words like “jihad, Martyr, Infidel” to name but a few and have little understanding of what these words mean. Some people for example believe that “Jihad” means war and that all Muslims are out to kill all “Infidels” this is totally untrue. And I really have came across quit allot of people who hold this view.

Modern day radical Islam comes mostly from the teachings of sayyid Qutb in a form of radical Islamic activism called “Qutibism”  this guy had a massive influence on Bin Laden and his teachings have been used as a ideological template for many other Islamic extremists the world over however these extremists are in the minority.

Just because the Muslim man down the road form you is going to a mosque every day doesn’t make him a terrorist. This “Islamophobia” is one of the views that can send Muslim community’s into isolation. If they see that their fellow citizens think they are evil and they are the subject of persecution and discrimination then it is more difficult for the security services to communicate with Muslim communities (this is a must in counter-terrorism), there for combating the threat becomes more difficult. On top of that it also alienates members of our communities who could have so much to offer us. It creates a “they won’t help us why should we help them” mentality within the community and it becomes counterproductive for the security services and the community as a whole. There is also the possibility that Islamophobia could be used to radicalise more and more young Muslim men into extreme radical views of Islam, something we have seen hear in Brittan.

I used to see it allot when I was at school it was basically the stupid kids bulling the Muslim kids or anyone who wasn’t white I can recall one of my peers once being asked “why did you blow up the towers you paki fucker”  when I stepped in I was called a “paki lover”. Now that I have left school I still see it. For example a few months ago my friend’s dad who is Muslim had a row with some customers calling him the usual rubbish, when he arrived for work the next morning they had vandalised his shop window and decorated it with pork sausages, how sick is that.

It saddens me because these views held by some people causes drifts in our communities and create a sense of fear and the “us and them” feeling. And that’s what terrorist’s want they want us to live in fear, they want us to been looking over each other with suspicion and then it all snowballs. I really don’t understand discrimination of any sort be it race, religion, age or sexuality but it’s this stuff based on someone religious beliefs that really gets me annoyed, it is disastrous for our communities.

I would really appreciate comments on this form Muslims.

Is it true that Muslims believe in stoning? Do ou?

Do Muslims believe in killing all non Muslims, and this is why Muslim terrorists are supported? Are  virgins their gift for dying for the cause?

    Are you a Muslim?

    Should Christians be killed?

    No to all questions

You constantly blur the line and need to be more specific because no-one knows what you are talking about.

    A B C

A= The majority of the millions of Muslims who live out their lives like everyone else and don't buy into the hatred.

B= The Muslims who claim to reject terrorism but practice anti-Semitism, support terrorists both directly and indirectly, practice radical Wahhabism, and seem to be isolated from modern society in the subjugation of their own people.

C= The nutcase extremists who want to rule the world with dark age extreme Islam.

The A's we have consistantly reached out to and on numerous occasions have stated we are not at war with them or their religion.

The B's we have pressured and nudged and seemed to have managed to get along with some, (the Saudis, Egypt) while others seem to just want to continue the hatred (Iran, Syria etc..)

We need to continue to pressure the B's until they join civilization and understand the world would be a better place if we all got along, we don't need to love each other we just need to get along.

The C's either need to be in some type of prison or some type of coffin.

What creates Islamophobia is the fact the A's and the good B's do not speak out and condemn all acts of violence and hatred and they never give credit where credit is due.  From the perspective of America yes we've certainly had our share of fucked up incidents that would lead to Muslims being pissed at us but come on.  How much money did Americans give to Muslims during the tsunami?  How much support did we give the very people who are calling us the great devils when the were fighting the Russians in Afghanistan?  How many generations of Iraqis did we save from torture and murder when we put Saddam on the path to wormfood?

As far as Islamophobia, I don't give a shit.  When Christians start flying planes into skyscrapers then they can be as prejudice and practice as much Christianphobia as they want.

SMB—I actually agree with most of what you have said! (What’s wrong with me eh?) I think most Muslims fall into the A or B category. Everyone in the C category are Islamic extremists and the only way in which I disagree with you is that I think people in A do speak out against terrorist attacks. And I do give a shit about Islamophobia other than that I agree with you in, the west we have done them harm in the past but it’s not been all bad like you said.

I think Islamophobia is bad if it happens today.  But if you are talking right after 9/11 then it is different, it is still wrong but vastly different and understandable.

Hey, Kev. I'm not going to disagree with you on any of this, but I wanted to make sure you've done enough American history to help you to understand why there is so much Islamophobia. It's all about the understanding...

Back in the days of Mormonism -- which by the way, more than 75% (3/4) of Mormons do not believe in polygamy, Brigham Young's teachings, etc., but the very first thing that anybody thinks of here in the US when you say "Mormon" is multiple wives -- which was pushed by Joseph Smith.

My home states, Missouri and Illinois, has a particular history with Mormonism and specifically Mormon fundamentalism that eventually led to an extermination order by the governor of Missouri in 1838, Lilburn Boggs.

Now strangely, in this day and age such an order would be considered genocide and otherwise cruel and unusual, but considering that the Mormon fundamentalists had in essence called for a Holy War (sound familiar?) against the state because they firmly believed that Independence, Missouri, was the "new Jeruselum" (sound familiar?) they threatened the lives and existence of the whole sovereign state.

    Hope this helps!
