What message would you send to ET?

Hello. It's me. Adam! I'm the existential DNA you incorporated into the gene pool here on earth. Most of my self has dissipated through constant regeneration through the ages. I don't like this game anymore. Please pick me up.

First of all, hello and welcome. Well done for being able to read this. I guess we shouldn't be surprised. This planet is a beautiful planet. Our only planet. Most of it is water. Please do not be quick at being angry at us.

I KNOW WE ARE A DISASTER BUT
PLEASE DON'T KILL US.
THERE MIGHT BE HOPE YET.

We are the humans race and we cannot solve our own problems. So would you please come and show us the way forward?

Love! Is there love in your galaxy?

If we discover intelligent life beyond Earth, we should not reply - we should freeze and play dead.

Down here we are all confused.

Keep away!! We are not ready for first contact. If you come here, our leaders will probably try to kill you. This planet is a mess and in all honesty the Human Race should be wiped from the galaxy and this planet turned into a garden planet. The universe would benefit greatly from our extinction.

Seriously, our leaders are so paranoid about perceived threats on Earth already that you'd just make the situation worse and war could be the only result.


Have whales been keeping you informed of Earth activity?

These above are only few of the thousands of messages that people all over the world is sending in the hope they will be read in the future by some alien wandering in our galaxy.

The messages have been collected by some time now by a groups of scientists and academics that had opened the site Earth Speaks (site homepage).

You can go and read all about it HERE.

The goal of the project is storing any message that any person in the world would like to be sent to the aliens in the hypothetical event to really meet them one day.

I went to the site and i read some of them......
Some are very deep and analytical, others just plain cute, other outrageously funny....
Some talks only about personal requests (like the aliens might be a sort of God Fairy), other are more cosmically globally oriented, others are negative and cynical, or sarcastic and angry.
Some people sends YT video (i know!), songs, paintings, math formulas.....even recipes....lol.....

Overall, its just a gallery of all our greatness and weakness.
I wonder what the aliens will think of us if they will ever read these messages.

I found the idea extremely sweet in its desire to build a bridge between here and there.
Browsing through these messages you can really feel waves of energy connecting in one single beaming green light shot to the universe...

Dreams, humor, fragile hopes, gentle soulfulness, imagination, pride.
Sure, you can also read a lot of cuckoo message too...:-) 

But overall its like a collective HELLO to entities different from us, a global WELCOME that most of all is showing the inner core of our humanity....the constant need to connect, to understand, to venture  outside the know, to be gentle and open minded, and tolerant.

So, my fellow Earth citizens, what message would you send to ET?

    (watched a Discovery Channel or something special about alien technology that freaked me out.  It was as if they were admitting all the secrets about alien existence, except for a small disclaimer at the beginning.  Makes you wonder....)

    Wish I could remember...but will explain since you asked.

    I clicked the remote and was watching a series of shows about alien technology and how we could "reverse engineer" it.  (see it working and try to copy it)

    I freaked out so bad that I set the alarm and watched the repeat of one of the shows (our cable tells you what will be on later)

    At the very beginning of the first show I saw, it said it was an example, or possibility or some such....I can't remember...but they meant, "How it might be."

    I just wondered, "Do they already know?"

    i'm a bit familiar with the SETI project.
    don't ask me for details ...lol.
    personally, i'd rather join a seti team that's involved in solving the (possibly) most difficult problem in ET communication:
    which is, how to make sure that an alien civilization can accurately decode the human-generated information that they will get.

    which is easier said than done.
    if you saw the movie "contact" (jodie foster), it shows the intricacies of our trying to decode alien messages already directed to us.
    the reverse process would be just as difficult.
    but not impossible, which is why it's a big challenge to scientific minds.
    here's the 1974 arecibo radio telescope message we tried to send them.
    and here's the copper plate engraving attached to the pioneer 10 spacecraft that's most probably still hurtling through deep space today (unless aliens found it already)...

    i think that once contact is made, it will be a gradual "knowing-each-other" process, a "show me yours, and i'll show you mine" ritual to first establish trust and respect at some fundamental level before higher levels of info exchange can be reached.

    oh, about the content of my personal message.
    it would be directed only to a certain alien.
    i'd simply tell her: "what's taking you so long?"

    Yes.

    That is what reverse engineering is...example:  we see a clock, don't know what it is, what it does, but we sure want one of those cool things!

    But ....if we are sending messages to them its because we are smart enough to do it, right? If they can receive them it will be because they are equally smart..

    That's really neat.  I think, just because of the array of messages, that it will give any other 'beings' a true sense of what our planet really is ... diverse, not always all fantastic, but diverse and because there is bad then there can be good, and vice versa.  Maybe it'll be a way for them to prepare themselves!  In as far as what would I say?  Heh, at the moment ... probably similar to what I just said ... I'd tell them to check out those messages and realize that our planet is diverse and offers many different opportunities, experiences and challenges.

    The display of our many diversities could make them think that we do get along pretty good .........therefore they might consider the option of not destroy the planet and being a little  tolerant with us as well.......(if they only knew....)

    Since i am having my breakfast i was wondering what they drink Saturday morning when they wake up?

    If they do wake up? Maybe they never sleep..
    If they do have Saturday mornings. Their concept of time must be structured in a very different way from ours...

    If they do have news to read and pets to walk in the bright light of the mornings and if they ever have a stream of lazy hours in front of them when their alien minds wander remembering past interplanetary trips to those galaxicious beaches to teh far South where the water jumps at you without you move so that they swim laying down in the kind of sand they have...


    Wonder how many trips it takes to go back and forth from Alpha-Centaury from their location..
    If thy have a location...maybe they simply float in the busy emptiness of the pneumatic air of the universe sending and receiving signals from any living form around them...and taking their sweet alien time to pick one planet and land....

    Maybe.....

I'm sure your advanced technology will be able to retrieve and decode our nonsense. Don't judge us too harshly. We had to improvise as we went along. Where were you when we needed you?

    But at least they would have the clear perception of our humanity is ...variegated, articulate, diversified and not easily to mess around with........especially if they would happen to read a message i might have sent when craving chocolate or more money in my account.......
