I know you won't believe me but I think about posting often. I have some great ideas for a blog. Really. At least I think they are awesome ideas!
Alas, I'm reduced to writing about the latest drama in my household......
As many of you know, Scooter Bug goes to a year round school. His first day of 3rd grade was on Monday. Yeah! I'm so excited for him. Not because he is now out of my hair - I love having him with me and dread the school year starting at the end of each summer. I'm excited because it's 3rd grade and he got a wonderful teacher this year. Things are looking up! Last year was not a good year for him and he was disliking school.
Last night was Grade Night. This was the night where the parents went to their child's room and listened to the teacher explain the year ahead. Normally I'm not that impressed. It's simply the teacher giving a lecture on what to expect. Scooter's teacher did a great job. I liked her honesty and candor. She didn't seem to be sucking up to parents or trying to score brownie points and she seems genuinely excited about teaching.
The whole thing lasted an hour. Scooter spent the hour in the gym where the YMCA was watching the students for grade night. When I walked in to the room to pick him up he was in a chair crying. I was informed he was playing basketball and a larger boy fell on him. His foot was hurt and had been "iced" but I needed to look at it. I knew we would end up at some urgent care facility before I even got close enough to see the swelling. Scooter is one tough kid. Wild as a dog and fierce. He had to be hurt to stop playing. Sigh.
(Seems a bigger boy had the ball and Scooter jumped for the ball but landed on the back of the kid when he turned. They both fell backwards onto the floor with Scooter's foot pinned. Soft landing for bigger kid, not so much for Scooter.)
I laugh now thinking on the first day of school "We should try for Perfect Attendance this year!". Scooter missed Day 3 of school. He is now in a bright red cast and on crutches for the next 2 weeks. We are off to a rip-roaring start! Four doctors have examined and x-rayed him. It looks like 3 fractures on the top three bones in his foot. No one is certain so better safe than sorry. If in two weeks, x-rays show no fractures he gets to lose the cast. I'm praying. He's an energetic little boy who is NOT handling the confinement well. (mom either)
Side note: His dad is losing his mind on the off-chance Scooter will not be healed in time to play Fall Baseball!!!!! At least we all have our priorities in order, right? Jk.
