On Monday, I began the three-month drug trial. I take three pills a day, 7 days a week. In a month, i will be on phase two, where I will take 4 pills a day, 7 days a week, and on the third month, I will be down to two pills a day, 7 days a week.

The first day I took the medications, it made me incredibly nauseous. I could not eat or drink anything, but the doctor told me that this was a normal reaction to the medication, and that if I didn't feel any relief from the symptoms in a week, that I might be disqualified from the trials. Other potential side effects that I might have that could potentially disqualify me are hallucinations, fever, night terrors, severe and uncontrollable nosebleeds and body swelling. I was told that only 1 in 50 people experienced such reactions, so I hope that I don't become the next statistic.

As of right now, I don't feel as nauseous and I have been able to keep food and water down today. I don't really have much of an appetite and I will have to go to the doctor on Friday for a check up to be sure I'm not having any more adverse affects.

I'm very tired right now, so I am going to go lie down, but I wanted to update everyone on the first three days of my new trial. I'll keep it updated as much as I can.

Oh sweetie, you must not have felt much like blogging about this, but you know there are those who are on your side, and here you are updating on the effects of the trial treatment.  I am sorry you have been feeling so bad so far with it, but hopefully you won't experience those other side effects.  And, hope you are doing as you said and are resting.

P.S. I keep wanting to call you "Liberty" because of your screen name.  "With Liberty and Justice For All."

I am glad the nausea has calmed down a bit so you can at least eat.  If the bad nausea returns are you allowed to take anti sickness medication as well?  I know some cancer trials you're not allowed to but some you are.

I really appreciate you posting an update when you must feel like crap.  Get plenty of rest and lots of love from little puppy will help too :-)

Well put it this way, chemo does exactly the same thing... only chemo is a shit boat uglier by the sounds of it.

Hang in there, and try liquids, keep hydrated so your liver doesn't freak out.

wombat- You can call me Liberty if you like :-) I have no problem with that. I am feeling a little better today, but I have been having terrible mood swings :-( Hopefully I don't drive my husband insane!

Unicorn- Thank you very much, I hope this works too!

Cat- Unfortunately, I'm unable to take any other medications, even over-the-counter ones. :-( It really sucks, but I suppose it's worth dealing with if my cancer starts to shrink.

Lucy- Chemo sucked, but the radiation was the worst part! I got some burns on my skin and it just zapped the energy right out of me. Good thing is, if I have to go back to radiation treatments again, I won't lose my hair :-)
